Why do you need Bootcamp/Parallels?

With Leopard's Bootcamp, as well as programmes like Fusion and Parallels, us mac users also have access to Windows programs.

Do you use either of these solutions? If so, which one and why?

What Windows program do you miss, or wish was available for Mac OSX?

I tried to install Bootcamp on my mac, but the bootcamp setup assistant couldn't partition my harddrive, as it couldnt move some large files. Unwilling to faff around with disc partitioners, I settled for Parallels.

To what end? There is a myriad of options for the Windows user to stream P2P TV, and yet from what I can see, not a single one exists for Mac OSX. It's a shame, because it caters for every other one of my needs perfectly. One single program is the cause for me needing to sully my mac with Windows :(

What about everyone else? What's your reason for using Windows? And can you suggest mac osx apps that do the same job better than these windows apps?

I learnt driving in the UK, and the school's computerised learning programme at home, for theory and hazard perception, are all windoze-based. So Parallels it is for me. No possible replacement by a MacOS application.

For multimedia-based software, like playback of MP3, viewing of photos, movie creation, etc., there is no going back to windoze for me.

Nowadays its just a few small things. As you say streaming TV is well catered for on Windoze, Joost being the only one around for Mac. Not being able to download from players like iPlayer and such like.

I use VMWare Fusion. I also have a license for Parallels but I don't like it as much and it was a bit dodgy on Leopard for a while. I also have an install of Vista that uses Bootcamp and honestly, I'm wondering what it's there for. I only installed it to check the OS out, I'm a windows developer so I need to make sure my personal projects work on it.

    Visual Studio, MSSQL Server, µTorrent

I just stream to my Xbox 360, so I can use Connect360 for that. But I know how you feel.

I'm using Parallels and find it amazing. Have an external monitor plugged into my MBP so I'm running OS X on my notebook screen and Windows XP on the external monitor. Its plenty fast, I can copy and paste between machines, drag and drop, etc. I'm amazed at how easy, fast and flexible it is. For me, the ability to run both operating systems so easily is one of the very best things about owning a mac.

Still using Windows mostly because I need Visual Studio. Also sorely missing several great Windows apps for which there is no good free replacement on Mac (Picasa, MediaMonkey, a ton of really great audio production software).

Running VMWare Fusion for Novell iPrint Client, which I need to print in college. Also, since I already had a version of Office 2003 I put that on it, which I use to check my iWork documents for Office compatibility.
