    Hey bro.

Something that really popped into my head as reading your post was that
you said there is no place in Ireland that will council cocaine addicts. That
is totally wrong. There are load and loads of places you could go to get treatment
    for a cocaine addiction.

    edit

    go here http://www.drugs.ie/find_services/index.php

find something in your area that will give you counselling
i bet been in Dublin if you are there are LOADS.

go down to the clinic on baggot street. they definitly do look after cocaine addicts. i know that 100%. they dont put you on a detox or anthing like they would for heroin becuase it isn the same physcial addiction, it is a lot more of a mental addiction. but they will defintily treat you. because it is the HSE you are supposed to go to your local clinic, but a lot of them have waiting lists. so it really depends what area you are living in.

You seriously sound like you are too lazy to look or avail of these services.

There is quite a few who deal with Cocaine. There is a drugs helpline who would fnd you the support you need too.

It's easy to come online asking for help - get up and do something though.

You have been given numerous options already and you are still asking questions on where to go or saying nowhere is going to help you!

i think board om has said it all :)

he helped me a lot now he is helping you, try that place he is a fellow
addict so he should know as i think he had been to all these places before.

your local clinic will probably be Coolmine and they definitly treat cocaine addicts. i know someone who was treated in there for cocaine about 2 or 3 years ago and it is brilliant. it is one of the best treatment centres in ireland, very advanced with great doctors and councillors. i know there is a big waiting list for inhouse treatment but i am not sure about outpatient patients. you would have to call them.

    I second Board_Om

    Coolmine is a great clinic.

Go into it though with your mind open and determination.

You only need to read Riceys thread for inspiration!

If you are serious now that you need the help and are prepared to get it then the above statement doesn't really wash OP. There is the help out there and you know what, out of all dependencies I think coke is one of the most destructive, you owe yourself and your loved ones the opportunity to get out of it's grasp. You say you have booze in your office as well. How is the drinking? Look at Ricey and Fingerscrossed and how inspirational they are and how strong they have been, you can do it too m'dear, depends if you have had enough or not and really WANT to.

    Miss Fluff

hey and you are right these other guys but it was all about heroin i just wante to start a thred about cocaine as it a bigger killer what do you think

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,673 ✭✭✭Miss Fluff

Statistically not a bigger killer than heroin but an absolute b5stard of a drug, turns people into complete and utter c0cks and the problem is that coke heads don't realise just what kind of people they have become they have their heads so far up their own arses - present company notwithstanding obviously!!!It is exorbitantly expensive and I don't think it brings out the best in people either tbh. You sound ready to proceed with treatment, do it OP, you won't look back.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 643 ✭✭✭board om

yeah, its definitly not as big a killer as heroin. it is more the physcial dangers that are th problem. it causes a lot of mental conditions like paranoia, anxiety, and depression, , and it does some serious damage to you internally like your liver and heart. but the problem is that until recently people havent realised how dangerous it actually is and while all the HSE resources were going into treating heroin i think cocaine got overlooked. sure there was no proper treatment for cocaine until the last few years. now ireland is full of cocaine addicts and half of them dont even realise they have a problem. with heroin just using it in the first place means you have a problem because it is not a recreational drug. plus becuase it is physically addictive you have no choice but to keep using it, and for that reason you cant say your not an addict. where as with cocaine it is used recreationally, so it is hard to know when you have gone 'too far'. it is difficult to know when you have crossed the line between using it socially and actually being an addict.

actually it could be worse, we could still end up with a serious crack problem in this country if were not careful. it is readily available now so it could still happen.

Maybe, all those people in Ireland who take cocaine should think of the misery it causes in the Andean countries of South America. Colombia, for example, is a beautiful country with beautiful people but has one of the largest populations of internally displaced refugees in the world. People snorting cocaine in Dublin contribute directly to the murder, rape and pillage of poor and innocent people. If you are reading this and are a casual user of cocaine, maybe you should do a google search to see the ecological, sociological and criminal effect your behaviour has elsewhere. It might help a more hardened user to take a step towards stopping too...

    Hey heart burn,

I think one of the first things you can do for yourself is tell your girl friend about your problem. You need the support of the people around you. I know it is the last thing you want to do. But it may be a big relief for you to share your problem.

    Best of luck.

your quite right. people in this country dont see that what they are doing on a saturday night has a huge knock on affect thousands of miles away in another country. sure a lot of people dont even connect the gangland killings in this country to what they are doing at the weekend. they dont realise that what they buy at the weekend actually comes from a gang somewhere along the line, and some of these people you see being shot and killed in ireland could be directly linked to that very gang, or to that cocaine. even though you might buy it off someone you know or a nice friendly person, you dont know who they are getting it from. so the next person up the chain could be some phychotic gun carrying gangster. it is only 1 or 2 degrees of seperation between the person doing the odd line on a saturday night and the gangs out killing each other. and then it is only another 2 or 3 degrees of seperation to the people that ciano6 is talking about.

i would like to think something like this would move a hardened user towards giving up, but if you arent going to give up when you are causing yourself so much damage, then you are less likely to give up when it causing someone else damage.

personally i like to think i even things out, the money i spend on crack and coke is contributing directly to the murder, rape and pillage, of poor innocent people in south america. but on the other hand the money i spend on heroin helps some farmer in afghanistan feed his family and gives him an income from his poppy fields. (i have to justify it to myself somehow).

My uncle hid a coke addiction for 25 years until his wife threw him out and he had to go to AA meetings every day for months to get over it. He had a massive heart attack last year and barely survived it. He now councels kids on cocaine I can put you in touch with him if you like. pm me.

I had a serious coke problem a few years ago. I lost so much weight so fast it was scary. People asked me if I had cancer or something! I knew in the end that I just had to give it up. It was difficult but it had to be done. If I kept on going the way I was, I wouldn't be here now.
I don't do any drugs now, even kicked the cannabis habit. All I do now is smoke cigarettes (which are next on the list to give up) and I only drink occassionaly. I don't even get drunk anymore. Life is much better

OP I have a similar story to yours. The progression from smoking and pills onto the coke with dabbles in all sorts of other stuff. Funnily enough-this day last year I finished 3 months of rehab in a treatment centre in Luton. The spiral that led to rehab was really gradual until the very end but it all caught up with me. I was a total dick to so many ppl and I didnt see it at the time. I did some stuff that I'm not proud of and other stuff that I'm ashamed of.
During the years (and years) of total drug abuse I always knew that it was wrong and that it had to stop but it took the absolute collapse of my life to snap me out of it enough to do anything about it.
I havent put anything up my nose since new years eve 2006 and the difference in my life is amazing. I have a job. I have money. My girlfriend trusts me. My mothers heart isnt breaking. The pain in my nose has stopped and I dont wake up every morning feeling like I'm 80.
I never would have stopped without going away to rehab tho even tho I really wanted to. I'm not saying that it cant be done but I know I couldnt have.
If you do want to stop and theres anything I can do for you feel free to PM me. Helping others is the 12th step.
