I traded in ''COD 4'' today for it(just about sick of every map in it and now that im playing R:6 Vegas 2 it's taking too long to get back into been able to play it properly, to bother with it).

I know it's only for €40 but there's only 6 tracks and 2/3 are just basic circle tracks(like Daytona). i'm not bothered about what's in the game itself since ''online gaming'' came along so would have appreciated 10+ tracks to be able to enjoy, instead your stuck with tracks even a 5yr old could master in minutes. also with the online.the cars you have unlocked in the game are the only ones usable online, so you get races where some fella's cars are WAY faster then yours(the car i have now is an EVO X) and couple that with the speed tracks they can easily pass you out.

I'm trading it in against the next game i get(might get €20 credit for it)anyway

For a 'glorified demo' it actually has a ton of content.

I've spent more hours playing it than completing COD4, Uncharted and Mass Effect combined.

It could use another couple of tracks, but it's got so many cars and so many modes that it doesn't really matter.

Whats the sound track on the game like? Also is this just like a demo(priced at €44 in HMV!) for the real version that will be released? Whens the real version due to hit the shops(I'd imagine it wouldn't be too far behind this....).

Gran Turismo 5 wont see a shelf until 2009.

    Have top disagree with that.

    1. Damage coming to full game, not this prologue version.
    2. Can't see how tyre marks effects you playing the game.
    3. AI is a lot better than previous versions IMO
    4. The new handling, physics model is superb. Are you playing with Professional Physics mode. Turn off active steering, ABS, traction control and ASD, they are for begineers. It makes it really really fun, cars handle very realisticly then.
    5. Dunno what you are talking about there?? Care to explain??
    6. Maybe on Datona ring it is? You won't win a race doing it though
    7. GT games have always been about car & phyics, not track side details. Don't know of ANY racer on any console that has polys wasted on spectators.

For €25 it cracking value IMO.

I think he means about going to your garage to select cars in the main menu instead of before a race!

Well it has been announced that damage will be coming to GT5 prologue through a patch maybe in the autumn.

GT5 won't be out for at least another year so yes it's worth buying.

Oh, great news about damage. That'll give a new lease of life to Prologue in the Autumn, after everyone's sick playing it!

Thoroughly enjoying this racer I have to say, completely to my surprise as I have no interest in driving in real life.

I really have enjoyed it, particularly saving up and getting the top end cars is a real sense of achievement. (I now own a Ferrari 430, an outrageously tweaked Gran Turismo Concept GT-R (Tuned) and a Corvette, which I highly recommend, amongst others).

    Next stop F1!

I think people have to realise that this is still a *game*. Realism is all well and good but honestly if you really want realism, nothing beats reality. Go out and drive an open day on a track somewhere. I like being able to mis a braking point and slamming into a wall without ending the level!

Btw, can anyone break 214 for top speed? (Not in the F1!)

In short, I didn't pay for the game, my flatmate did. Having played it, I would certainly fork out for it...

    DeV.

No I think I'll just wait for the real gt5 it just doesn't seem worth 40 euro for what's effectively a demo then you have to pay another 60 to 70 euro when it comes out.No thanks.

i have to agree on the menuing system, it's absolute tripe.

hit X on 2p arcade, "ohh ****e that's not what i want", wait for loading screen, hit O to cancel, wait for loading screen, select events, wait for loading screen...

another one, you've just completed an event, you then have to exit, then exit again, load main menu, save, main menu, go into events, load events menu, select class, load events, select event...

I hope that damage thing dosen't come out. I hate looking at wrecked cars.

    1) No Damage modelling.
    2) No Tyre marks left on track/sand.
    3) Very poor driver AI.
    4) Generic Handling.
    5) Needless amount of time spent in game menu doing needless tasks.
    6) Wall riding is still possible on some of the tracks.
    7) Cardboard cut-out spectators.

I don't really agree that these things should put people off the game.

    1) It will certainly be nice to have but I don't think it adds nearly as much as people say it does. The penalty system currently in place when you hit things achieves the same effect of being a deterrant as damage would. When damage does come in, I hope they do it properly like Codemasters, but it'll probably be more like Forza and just be a slight cosmetic change to how the car looks and a slowing down, and that's really not much of a step above the penalty system.

    2) I can't say I noticed. You make a good point though about braking points showing up and it's something I've wanted to see in my F1 games for a while but I don't think it's ever been accurately done by a game, any game I've seen with tyre marks are extremely non subtle black lines, which usually disappear by the time you're back round again. Then I've never played the big PC sims because I don't have a steering wheel or patience...

    3) I find the AI in Prologue to be very racy and a vast improvement on the previous GT games. It's not perfect but it's getting much much better, and there's no shortage of action in 16 car races.

    4) Best handling in a console game, with a standard joypad. Sure, it's not a hardcore sim, but if it was it would put a hell of a lot of people off. I like it how it is and so do many others if sales figures are anything to go by. The physics and driver aids options do give it a lot of flexibility too.

    5) I've got the Japanese version of the game so obviously I haven't found the menus too easy to navigate. I put up with it though because I enjoy the game, I would have assumed they work better in English but I don't know.

    6) Is it? I've found most contact with the wall results in a black flag penalty, and it's never as fast as following the racing line anyway. Although I'm of the belief that if players want to do this kind of thing (in single player), then why not let them? Sticking to the racing line is always faster, but bouncing off walls can let less skilled players complete events they might not otherwise. As you said, you completed races doing this for a laugh. Isn't having a laugh what games are about?

    7) This can stand out but it's hard to argue with certain details like this being off when overall the game has the best graphics in any driving game period, and by some margin.

You will rarely ever see a entire grid of saloon cars finishing a race in perfect condition. So I think it looks silly in the game having all these cars in showroom condition after a race!
Yes I know but I just don't like damaged cars. I like looking at the cars in good nick.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 9,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭stevenmu

    Then don't crash :)

Most games with damage usually have an option to turn it off anyway.

Is their any fast way of racking up credits? I am nearly finished on the A category but having to buy the different cars for each race has ment I havent much credits.

Is the only way by racing over and over again. Selling cars isnt an option as the resale value of the car is rubbish.

I would love to try the F1 car

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

You will be a while saving the 2,000,000 credits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,248 ✭✭✭Plug

Complete class A and then class S will be come availible. Do the super cars race. 32500 credits, handy race.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

You basically have to farm the Oval races for cash. Get yourself a Concept GT-R (Tuned) (its 300K under the Gran Turismo manufacturer) and then own every oval in sight (as well as Speedway).

I'm currently on the slog to get to F1 too, its hard because my flatmates keep buying hairdressers cars :p

    DeV.

Personally I cant see the attraction of damage physics. I would prefer to see all processer power going to car handling and detail. I dont see the point in having a feature that would annoy the hell out of you untill you got good at the game, and when you did get good you wouldnt see it at all. If you want to crash get burnout paradise.

OP....IMO It is definatly worth getting. If you are a GT fan its a must have. It'll bridge the gap between now and the full release.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,891 ✭✭✭Stephen P

Will they add the feature to buy parts for your car to upgrade it? Or will they wait for the full game to introduce that?

Same problem here, it's really annoying as I can't access alot of the features of the game.

EDIT - Just googled it (really should have done that earlier) and it seems to be a common problem.

Modern generation consoles (PS3 and 360) have more than enough processing power to include damage modelling. In fact compared to the amount of calculations done by the physics engine it would hardly tax the system.

And the idea for damage is so that you drive within your own limits and not throw the car off the track at ever corner. Just because I want crash dynamics doesn't mean I`m a destruction derby racer. Without proper damage you loose a very large part of racing. Without damage you can just throw the car up the inside of every corner not worrying about damage.

best reason i have heard for the whole damage modelling to be added to any raceing gamei feel like i should add but you kind of said it all.

I finally got it to work, the News trick seems to work, go into news section of the game and when it asks for update download it from there it will more than likely fail, just restart it and try again and will work eventually

Yeah , the problem there is that to get S class I have to win A class , and Im still struggling with the " pass everyone in your ferrari " race. A rage inducing fourth is the best Ive managed :D

Its online too , although beware , you will want one of really good cars before you go online or you wont have a hope ! You could always cause some crashes though !

so is it worth getting for somebody who is willing to wait for the proper game to come out or is it an essential game

Isn't it true that the cars you buy now and your credits on your save game can be transferred to GT5 when it comes out? If so, I think it is essential (at least to get your foot in the door with regrads online anyway!)

Your credits maybe, but since GT5 will have a completely different structure and will (presumably) have proper car tuning unlike that in prologue, I don't think anything else will copy across.

I prefer it that way anyway, I love doing the licenses and racing a little second hand banger and the sense of achievement as you work up.

It'd ruin the game if you started it with an F1 car in your garage.

I love this game and have spent a lot of time with it , but I agree , it would spoil the full game if you were allowed to carry all your cars over , it would be ridiculously easy , better to start from scratch.

Just 200K left to earn for the F1 , cant wait !!
