    Hi,

My wife and 2 kids (5months + 2 years) are going to lanzarote for a weeks holiday. Does anyone know if we can buy nappies, baby food etc there as it will save us hauling half the house with us!! Does anyone know of any good restaurants there (puerta del carmen) or is it the usual package holiday deal of dodgy places with pictures on the menus.

Supermarkets sell pretty much everything you'd need. There's a lot of children on holidays in lanzarote as its a very family friendly place. There should be a supermarket every 100 meters or so no matter where you are.The best restaurants by a long way are located in the old town, particularly near he harbour. They serve the best food in the best sorroundings at th best prices and are far superior to anything along the main strip. The harbour is a five minute taxi ride from the furthest part of the main strip and is well worth the 5 euros it costs. The best restaurants in the harbour IMHO are LA Dolce Vita Doe,Los Marinaros and La Lonja. The most expensive main course in any of these places is about 14 euro.Enjoy!

If you're staying near old town there's a huge supermarket on Reine Sofia that stocks eveything you could possibly need. Have to agree about the restaurants at the harbour, you get the best steak is in Los Marinaros. And if you're inti seafood La Lonja is the place to go. Salivatating at the thought, yum!

There's supermarkets everywhere, pretty much on every corner.Avoid the electrical shops that sell digtal cameras and binoculars, they're rip-off merchants.A d dont eat in Lani's..its a chain of restaurants that just isnt worth the money for the crappy touristy food.

i was in lanzarote last year not sure about the nappys and baby food but the nicest restaurants are are in the old town. u have a lovely view over the harbour and the food is cheap enough and its tasty.

There are buckets of Spars so no problem with getting nappies!! There is the usual package holiday, rubbish restaurants all over the seafront but if you venture to the old town (a short, cheap taxi ride) you will get gorgeous restaurants..

Check out Montmatre, a French bistro - absolutely gorgeous!

Hey hot fuss, whereabouts exactly is that Montmarte place? Will be over there very shortly, always looking for new places to try out!

    +1 on Bistro Montmartre.

It's just next to El Tomate and is adjacent to the Biosphera shopping center.

I'll echo Degsey's remarks on Lani's. STAY AWAY.

There are plenty of decent supermarkets in the resort.

If you are planning on buying electricals, go to Arricife. There are plenty of reputable electrical outlets there.

And DONT let the amount of tourists you see in the place fool you..they wont be back and neither will you!

Thanks everyone for your help. It's always better to get the advice of people who've been there as opposed to guide books. Heard from a guy in work to avoid lani's as well so thanks again everyone for the info.
