Myself and my Girlfriend stayed in the Hotel Condes De Barcellona. It's about 5 mins walk down to La Ramblas, loads of places to eat near by.

    All round awesome hotel.

    Hotel Confortel Almirante - 4* - Barcelona
    via laietana, 42

stayed there a few days ago. very very central. a bit plain.
just across from the old cathedral in Barri Gothic and about 20 metres from a Irish pub where I watched Champions league football in the evening when my feet failed me and was able to walk no more.

    Hi,

I can't tell you a hotel, but I can tell you the area to stay, or even better, where not to stay.

Avoid The Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter as it is crowed, overrated and you have to add the pickpocketing problem. Instead I would recommend the Eixample, both sides of Passeig de Gracia between Avinguda Diagonal and Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, as it is walking distance to Las Ramblas and Gothic Quarter, plenty of public transport, it is safer and you get more value for money.
Check for hotels on this area (see googlemaps link below) and look for reviews on differents websites in order to find a nice one.

Hope you have a good time in Barcelona,
    Dan
