A "Not about Men, Money, Love, or Contraceptives" Thread

Sarah Sassy started a thread a while ago that got a bit misunderstood... but I got her point. Girls, were not all about men or cut and uncut willies. A lot of the threads here, understandably, are about men and other 'female' issues.

I know a lot of the faces here (well avatars anyway) and rather than finding out what you all use for birth control, do sexually, or what your OH, BF, HB or SO is like, Id like people to post what makes them unique, without reference to their own physique, their man or his willy.

So: Whats your best quality and whats your reason for getting up every morning, if you leave out men, money and sex? What makes you wonderful? (Cos you know youre wonderful! :))

I see your point KtK. I would consider some of the girls here good friends now after the last few months and they are wonderful. Despite the reputation or image the LL has they are all funny, smart strong women, as cliched and pathetic as that sounds (it sounds like the friends episode where Chandler learns to stop smoking by listening to that tape! :D)

Hmm, what makes me wonderful? Isn't it always hard to say nice things about yourself? I like to think I'm a good person, I can't stand to see anyone hurt and I'll do a lot for other people to help them. I'm a loyal friend and I'll always stick up for you. I have a dirty sense of humour and don't like to take things too seriously but I am a natural worrier and tend to get myself worked up about things that might not even happen. I wear my heart on my sleeve and I find it very difficult to hide when I don't like someone.

I have a terrible phobia of tomatoes (they're evil) and a fondness for cake.

I get up in the morning because otherwise I'd lose my job! (seriously, I'd do anything for an extra 10 minutes in bed. I love sleep so much)
    That's me!

I see what your going for with this thread but the truth is the stuff I'm really into and that makes me...well me - I'm an artist, I work as an animator, I draw comics and travel alot to go to comic shows and hang out with other comic heads, love film and I mean LOVE it and I've been a veggie for 15 years - if I want to talk about any of that I post in the forums relevant to that subject.

Theres lots of strong female cartoonists out there now and comics for women that aren't about dating/romance but is it worth me posting about that it this forum or is someone just going to reply and say "go post in the comics forum"?

    About me, Let me see...

I am 28. Also a very caring person, I spend a lot of my spare time working with children on a voluntary basis. I am on the comittee of a social group for children. I find this very rewarding. Although my friends think I lead a double life!

I usually leave a lasting impression on people- long after we have met.
I have a bubbly personality and get on with most people.

As for what makes me get up in the morning.... "MAMMY, MAMMY,MAMMY", My two wonderful children... (Soon to be 3)

My reason for getting up? The fear that one day - i wont. ( happens us all) i'm all for living & enjoying life in the best possible way.
I'm a creative soul, i write poems, songs & sing... I love be creative - i love to see others do well, and im a good person. Thats it - im muddlin thru to find my way to be the best person i can be, and my only aspiration is to feel happy with myself & my choices. Have had a lot of loss, and im making sure that everyone important to me feels it.
I am a hippy! i wanna fix the world & all its problems- i get upset watching the news & trocaire ads...

I want everyone to smile more, cry less and shine! :)

I have to get up when I wake up, otherwise I have a sneezing fit and my nose is out of whack for the rest of the day.

Aww KtK, what a lovely thread. Now this really is food for thought. Great idea!! :)

It is hard to say nice stuff about yourself lol but I'd like to think that I am a good listener and provide strong support to whoever needs it. I'm that person who everyone seems to confide in and while I don't always know how to help, I appreciate that I am trusted so much.

I get up in the morning because I have to go to college and I also work (to afford to go to college lol) in a cosmetics store, giving advice on skin, hair etc. I'm 19 and I hope to either become a teacher or a counsellor. We'll see where the future takes me!! ;)

My favourite thing in the world is my little dog - Rocky!! He's sooooo cute!! :o

Why do we always find it hard to think, let alone say nice things about ourselves???

when we are asked to describe ourselves, do we really go to the very depths of our hearts and spill the truth of how we feel about ourselves???

I dont think we do. I know I dont. But now. . . I'm going to say exactly what I feel about myself. . .

I love to wake up in the morning. I have a fantastic family including my mother, 2 sister, 2 nieces, 1 nephew and 2 bro-in-laws. My family is my life. I live for them and will do anything for them. we lost our dad 3 years ago when I was 21 and he was 50. But I'm ok with this now, because now I have learned (the hard way) to totally appreciate my family anf myself.

I do alot for my friends too, and they do the same for me. I live every day to the full and the best I can. I work within our health service and love it. I like to think I make a difference to someone elses life everyday. I've not been in the best of health myself, and got some crappy news a few weeks ago but I'm still breathing. I wake up every morning, and for that I am more than greatfull.

    I could go on. . . but I'd start boring myself I think :D

    Hmmm, not easy....

Im positive, inquisitive (about plenty of topics and the world in general) and also witty (have been told). I have good friends and am a good friend. I also have good skin.

    Phew thats over :)

    SS

PS mushrooms are the food of the devil - nasty, nasty. Dont know how people can put the dirty yokes in their mouths...

    Ok, here goes.....

I read - a lot. I love knitting, and i don't care in the slightest if people think that's old fashioned. Some mornings my reason for getting up is because i've managed to tangle myself up in some yarn and needles in my sleep and need to work my way free.

Other mornings i get up because i have to - i like my sleep, but even more than that i like the warm time lying in bed first thing, thinking my thoughts and listening to the radio.

Actually, forget all that - the real reason i get up is my need for coffee. The struggle is to not get back into the bed with mug in hand. :D

I take really good care of my feet all year round because our feet connect us to the planet, and I like wearing sandals in summer.

I like experiences - tasty food, beautiful patterns that the sun make on clouds, bird song, and green scenery. People are also fascinating, to watch in the queue in Dunnes or to read the posts of on boards.ie.

    I'm people tofu.
I absorb a little bit of everything, but ultimately I'm not anything in particular.

This is exactly what I would write! Particularly about wearing my heart on my sleeve. In some ways it's a bad thing (can be embarrassing crying easily or being affected a lot by other people's problems) but recently I've decided it's one of my favourite things about myself and I don't want to lose it because of other people and how they treat you. I like that I trust people and even if it means getting hurt occasionally i think it allows me to be happy (most of the time!)

One other thing is my "fondness for cake" could probably be described more as a passionate love!!!

I'm a dutiful creature, and as such will put up with a whole pile of crap from someone if I know in my heart that they really are so pathetic they can't function without whatever help I'm giving them. (And in my life, unlikely as it sounds, this happens.)

I suffer from intense idiot-intolerence, which clashes with my first point - so while I'll keep helping you, I'll have no respect for you.

I'm a fair person, so I'll always try to see your side of the argument. Again, however, that doesn't mean I'll respect it. Or you.

...I have a lot of trouble respecting people. :D

I'm also one of those annoying people who's always a little bit good at everything they turn their hand to. Except singing. I'm a BAAAAAAD singer.

I love to cook, and that includes the study of things like the fifth flavour, umami, and its effects in Asian cooking, and also the history of foods and its origins. More and more, I love to go to markets and pick up the weirdest looking fruit or vegetable or species of fish or cut of meat I've never worked with before, and take it home with me and learn what to do with it. I was a frustrated art student - scored my A in art in my leaving cert, but was dissuaded from attending NCAD in favour of journalism in DCU - subsequently my creativity has finally found an outlet in the kitchen.

Plus I have an extra tooth - I have an extra right lateral incisor in plain sight in the front of my mouth, that nobody ever notices until I point it out.

Im going to try to remember that. I ignore my feet as a necessary evil, I keep telling myself that one day Ill get a pedicure and stop wearing bad shoes, but never do.

I used to be bah humbug about mornings and hate getting up, but recently ive started a new project that Im so involved in and loving its mad... and that makes me feel like getting up because Im looking forward to the day.

I love tomatoes. And mushrooms. But Im a veggie, and it comes with the territory. But cucumber, now thats a vegetable that should be banned. Bleugh.

I get up out of bed to walk my dogs mostly. Thats a good thing when theres nothing else to force me out of bed these days.
I'm 28 years old and have never had a real job. I've just finished my phd dissertation which was the most difficult thing I have ever done in my life, not because its intellectually fabulous or anything, but because it was pure hard graft and drudgery to get it finished. I very nearly lost my mind. So yes, the most fabulous thing about me at the moment is that I'm not insane :D. I owe a lot to Buster, Bob and Duchess tbh, who gave me stuff to do that took my mind off things and made me get out and about.

Otherwise, I'm bloody-minded (see dissertation above), loyal (to a fault), and do my own thing, even if thats difficult sometimes (and it usually is). On the other hand, I'm non-confrontational and hate rows.

I adore tomatoes and mushrooms... peppers are out though. I like them, but my tummy doesnt.

i get up to go to work. if i dont go to work, i will get sacked. If i get sacked, i wont be able to pay my mortgage, if i didnt my my mortgage, my house would be repossessed and i would end up leaving in a cardboard box but then i wouldnt have to get up

    Good thread!

What gets me up of a morning? The computer, to go and check emails and posts from home overnight and see what I'm missing back home. Not working at present so a job doesn't get me out of bed.

My best quality..I'm very caring and compassionate and I find people very interesting, hence I will always ask people questions about themselves when I meet them, start generally and see where it leads and try to find out what makes them tick..been surprised how many people don't actually ask me much about myself when I meet them..maybe they can't get a word in edgeways :D

There is so my veggies on boards, nerds and veggies.

Lychees, celery, celeraic, and badly prepared courgette and/or aubergine are on my extermination list.

    Yup. :)

I remember a teacher, years ago, telling us all how to accept a compliment. To simply say thanks. Not to respond by denying it or laughing it off or whatever, which so many people do.

That joke for the patients thing is brilliant.
