Deadlift and me back!

So, I was deadlifting last night. I'm 69kg, and was deadlifting 40kg plus the Olympic bar (so, 54kg?). Felt I was doing it with correct form - head up, chest out, shins touching the bar, etc. Today my back is quite stiff.

Now I don't want to stop deadlifting, because I really notice the difference since I started it, but I don't want to walk around like Monty Burns either.

Without having to put a vid on Youtube, could anyone give me an idea where I might be going wrong?

Ya aint goin wrong anywhere Buddy (presumably) - Deadlifts are a killer on the back.. that's why we love em...

So remember, if it hurts - that just means it's working! :)

I started doing these a few weeks ago and I had a pretty stiff back for a few days - it was like going back to working out after a stretch doing nothing. Sore but quite satisfying too if ya know what i mean ;)
    It gets better

I just don't want to end up in surgery having to get a back operation!! Is it just DOMS, or is it the beginnings of a long-term problem that could be avoided if I left the old deadlift alone?

I love deadlifting (if that's possible!), so hopefully can keep doing it :)

Just make sure your back is not rounded. You should get a great pump in your lower back if done correctly - no other exercise feels quite like it!

its could be just DOMS, could be bad form, ask a trainer to look at your form.
if you've just started it then it may be just DOMS.
judt to be safe i would ask someone to check your form.

Please don't listen to this advice OP. You need to get your form checked by somebody with the necessary knowledge. I'm not dismissing that it could be DOMS, but don't risk it.

T-Nation had a 3-part article on deadlift form a while ago that was quite good. I would link it but I'm in work and don't want to get snared by my boss looking up half-naked women.
