    Ok ,here it goes .:)

I've noticed on ebay that sellers claim to operate from a certain country.
I.E. Canada ,when clearly they are from china/japan and ship from china/japan.

Given that the ebay/shops seem to be clean and get good feedback ,apart from people complaining about the origin of the goods.

Is there generally anything to be weary about from sellers like this ,or are they just taking advantage of shipping costs and trade laws ?

I see a lot claiming to be UK based on ebay.co.uk, when in fact they are (or at least the goods are shipped from) Hong Kong. This is in order to appeal to UK people who believe it'll arrive quicker from a UK seller, and also would not have any customs to worry about.

The bad English in the auctions is usually a dead give away on a sellers actual location, though not always.

Noticed this today. Was looking at an ipod touch. It said on the page that the item was being sent from the UK. When I went through the feedback I realized that the guy was based in USA as people had got caught with customs.

Thanks ,I purchased something yesterday from one of these type.
    Payed via paypal straight away.

They've not returned my email though ,probably a student trying to earn a few quid for themselves.

Yep, the 2 main reasons are listed, people thinking it is a native or EU seller, and so people will think there will be no postage issues- same thing sort of.

Some will mark as a gift of low value without you asking, to stop duty issues, and hence stop neg feedback.

If people appear to be from the EU but have restrictions about where they will sell, then they are probably outside the EU. I think Italy are strict on customs so many will not send there.

Check neg and neutral feed back at www.toolhaus.org

I bought an iPhone from an Irish seller, registered in Ireland, however, when the invoice arrived at the end of the auction, it carried an US address.

Turns out they were supplying the phones from US, only bought when paid for via paypal and then shipping them to agent in Ireland and then onto me!

Got the phone last week and works perfectly and was in constant communication with the seller!

Reckon they only did this so as to appeal to Irish buyers! Worked out for me though!

I've not bought a whole lot on ebay ,but anytime I've sent a message through ebay ,I was contacted back.

I paid for an item 3days ago and the seller hasn't contacted me, nor have they replied to two messages.

Is this normal for a seller to ignore ebay messages ?
