I'm hoping to go to DCU next year and I'm just wondering what's the easiest/cheapest way to get to DCU from Heuston station? I've tried the dublin bus website but i can't make heads or tails of it! Is there a bus that goes from the station to college or would I have to get a bus to Connelly and a train from there?

you've got a poxy journey ahead of you. my advice would be to get the 90 down the quays, and the 13, 13A, 11 or 11A to dcu. just my view, i'm sure someone else would be able to find a better route for ya.

sounds like you should think about moving up though

Walk. I did it all through first year, take you just under 2 hours.
Failing that, get the Bus. It takes a similar amount of time(assuming you're going to Waterford) and is *far* cheaper.

Your best bet, as pointed out would to either get a Bus, Luas (Or even a hop and a skip) down along the quay's till you get to O'Connel St. From there you can get on any one of the regular busses from the City Centre to DCU (11/a/b, 13/a, 19a, 4/a ... I think thats all of them).

There is no direct bus, to the best of my knowledge, that goes from Heuston Station to DCU.

Are you talking about commuting or just going home at weekends? You can get a bus into O'Connell Street and hop on the Luas or get another bus, which will bring you down to Heuston. It's about 25 mins walk (give or take) from O'Connell Street to Heuston Station.

A bit of trivia for you aswell. Sean Óg used to run from DCU to Heuston station every weekend when he went home to Cork. It's been cited quite a few times to show his dedication to training and how he was always willing to do that bit extra. Just in case you were wondering!;)

What Winters said basically, bus or Luas from Hueston to O'Connel Street and then just get the regular DCU bus from there.

Bus from Heuston, are you mad?!

    Hello deise!

Don't bother get the bus from Heuston. Traffic is dire along the quays most days of the week, so get the Luas. It will cost you 1.50 single way to get to the Abbey Street stop (closest to O'Connell Street). Same price as bus, but nicer, generally less packed, and very very frequent!

From there you can get the 11/11A/11B, 13A or 19/19A. These will drop you at the rear entrance of DCU. From the bus stop, you cross the road and you are at the entrance. It's only a 2 minute walk along a lovely leafy driveway up to the Hub, the central point of DCU.

Otherwise, you could get the 16 or 16A, also from O'Connell Street. These will drop you along the Old Airport Road. From the stop at Collins Avenue, it's barely a 6/7 minute walk up to DCU.

If you get a bus/LUAS ticket it'll set you back €72 a month with a student travelcard.

Luas & bus from Heuston to O'Connell St take about the same amount of time, that's the slowest stretch of the Luas line :(

Alternatively if you like the exercise, get the bus or luas from heuston to Array Quay, walk up Church St to Broadstone at Western Way and get a 19A from there to DCU, should avoid a lot of the traffic but it's about 1km of a walk (10 minutes maybe).

I have to do this most weekends, i get a luas from heuston to abbey st. then walk up o'connell to catch any of the numerous buses to dcu, takes me about 45-50 minutes to get from heuston to dcu most times, it all depends on traffic and how long you have to wait for bus/luas etc.
