Holiday With Infant

    Hi folks,

My girlfriend and I had a beautiful baby daughter last year and we are now planning our first family holiday away together. When we were a childless couple we just booked somewhere last minute and off we went on our merry way. But now, I guess more planning is needed!

So I'm looking for advice on somewhere sunny to go in the last week in June. It obviously has to be 'family-friendly'. And would self-catering be the best way to go?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Went on holidays with my son and wife twice last year. Its hard work but worth it. First off make sure the flight is short. Secondly go aer lingus as Ryanair are not good with kids (would not heat a bottle for us or leave us go to top of queue for instance).

If you can afford it a two bed apt is the way to go. Put baby in one and you go in one. You need a travel cot for this option. Self catreing means doing a big shop and taxi home on day 1 and hoping it lasts the week (hint buy twice as much beer as you think you will need - you wont get out much). Go out for 2/3 meals (or every night if you can manage). We found that we always came home late from pool/beach and that meant we could not go out as baby got cranky after 8.

Option two is a hotel which has the advantage of half board but the disadvantage of less space. Also they probaby do a babysitting service. Again you are going to be sitting in a lot so air conditioning is vital in July and August.

Good luck its fun but not as restful as a 2 person holiday.

PS it was Portugal we went to and found them very accomadating to kids.
