    Getting a local guy to service car. What parts should I give him e.g. oil, filter - anything else?

    diesel or petrol car?

    diesel you need air filter, fuel filter, oil filter, oil , pollen filter

    petrol, the above and spark plugs

    yes they do, all petrols do to ignite the engine as such

    Oil and oil filter are the only mandatory items.

    Spark plugs and air filters are not done every service.

    The service interval for fuel filters in petrol cars is huge. About 100k miles big in some cars.

    Your car will not run any better with a new pollen filter, and it may not even have a pollen filter.

    EDIT: I'd go with AudiChris.. either let the mechanic pick them up, or ask him specifically what to get.
