Hey guys. Can any of you who know from society involvement help me out with cheap places to get customised hoodies? The best quote I found online was €22 per hoodie.

    Thanks,
    Z

Having compared the quality with Camden, only wishing I had used them this year - really good quality and very good value.

While it is admirable that you wish to promote collegiate spirit, hoodies with some college body's name written on them are tacky and look completely retarded. The hoodies originally came about as a leisure garment from sport, but when classes, socieities etc wear them it is ridiclous. Who wants to see some nerd wearing an ill fitting hoodie that has "Pharmacy" or "BESS" or "Players" written on it. It's also quote arrogant as you're trying to tell people what you're part of, that you're better than them. Most college faculties, socieities and clubs have designs of scarves and ties that go way back, why don't you get some of them made instead?

Sheesh, why do you care if people want to wear a hoodie to say what class/society they're in. I kinda agree with you, but I think the above is just offensive tbh. The hoodies would be for the new (as of this year) american football team, the Trinity Thunderbolts. Scarves and ties aren't a bad idea, but hoodies are more of a sports team thing, especially for one that hasn't even been recognized by DUCAC yet. Hardly any 100 year traditions floating around.

Personally, I think you have some insecurity issues to just unload on people who wear class hoodies. Did you mean to say "quite" or "quote" arrogant? In fact the more I read your post, the clearer it becomes that it is you who is arrogant. It's you who's judging people on what they're wearing. Arrogant, patronizing and someone who generally needs to shut up.

Yes i wouldn't really pay any attention to that chap. He probably has no society/class/sports club hoodies to wear anyway and is probably bitter about the fact.

    You find any cheaper hoodies?

How is a hoody any different to a tie or scarf?

At least a hoody will get a decent amount of everyday use

I love to see people wearing these hoodies around college. it gives me a clear indicator that i should avoid these people and have as little interaction with them as possible. Why get a hoodies with 'pharmacology tcd' written on it, why not just get 'i am a sack'?

Its funny that even when there is no uniform in college, people still try to create one....

It's funny that people take offence to what other people want to wear...

I can't see why you would prefer this over hoodies. The wearing of either is promoting what class/society/sports club you're in, even if a scarf or tie isn't as explicit.

I have a society hoodie myself. When I do wear it the odd time, I don't think of it as showing off or advertising what I'm apart of, I just think of it like any other jumper I have. The reason I got it was to have something of a memento from my time in college and it's purely for my own benefit.

    Haha what a reply!!!

I have to say I dont see the reason for getting a hoodie with your course name printed on it... why????

Are you trying to promote your college course, or is it just that you want to show off that you were one of the thousands of students who made it through the leaving cert and got to college...

How exactly am I arrogant? I think your hoodies will look stupid, you obviously think they will look well, that's a difference of opinion. Hoodies have nothing to do with sport, really. They are leisure wear to associate yourself with the club, to belong. The idea behind ties and scarves is that they are a seemingly meaningless pattern of colours to most people, but those who recgonise the design can identify the association between them.

I meant to say "quite" arrogant, a description I will also apply to you. I can assure you that I am very secure and successful, and wrote that post because I care about this university.

P.s. the idea for an american football team in college is a bad one, there are plenty of sport clubs that students don't join already.

You can't inhabit a timeless world where meanings and practice are relative. Society falls into detritus and deacy. We can only move forward by knowing where we have come from, and by twirling, always twirling onward and upward (but with a link to the past).

The reasons you would have a scarf or tie are exactly the same as the ones you reasonably cite for wearing a hoodie. I suppose a large part of it comes down to taste.

Why am I reminded of scenes from movies or TV shows where an angry person storms out, then back in, and out again, and back in, each time shouting "And ANOTHER thing!.."?

Okay I think this thread has outlived its usefulness
