    Hey, hope domeone can help

Up until nowe, the only USB keys I've used are free ones ! I'm in college and yesterday mine got corrupted; lost a bit of work, so I thought I should invest in a decent one !

I was looking at the 2GB SANDISK USB CRUZER MICRO U3 FLASH STICK PEN DRIVE

Can anyone tell me if this is reliable, or if not what would be ?

    Cheers

That one should be fine. The main thing with any usb key is to remove it properly. And by that i mean eject it and saftely remove hardware. Dont just yank it out after youve finished using it. Just be carefull with them, dont expose them to rough bumps, heat or cold and deffo no moisture.

My brother let his go in the wash. It's still working several months later :). As long as you let it dry out properly (leave it for a week or so) chances are it will be OK. Dunno if I'd trust it with very important info though...

XP, and I assume Vista, defaults to a mode where no write caching is done when writing to flash media, so no need to do the Eject thing. As soon as the light stops flashing on the drive, the OS is finished writing to it and you can remove it. External USB attached disks are another matter, and they are usually optimized for speed instead and employ write caching and delayed writes.

See the following in the properties of the drive in Device Manager.

2GB SANDISK USB CRUZER MICRO U3 FLASH STICK PEN DRIVE

I wouldnt be bothered with that U3 thing , portable apps does the job just as well and can be installed on any USB stick. Its more stable than U3 as well , and more customisable.

The Sandisk stick has a USB connector that slides into the body instead of a lid that will get lost pretty quickly. Small detail that's usually overlooked but it's important!

If you don't like the U3 stuff it's very easy to uninstall.

the sandisk is still a good choice, just uninstall u3 as it's complete and utter ****e.

Ya, but i got a monitor, 2 hd's and a psu coming for that 30e delivery :p Is there not a cheaper snailmail postage option?

Edit, just checked & there isn't a cheaper option, not worth buying unless buying other items

Keep yer eye on that lid. Apparently it's particularly slippery and easy to lose on this model!
