Nice to see Savage get a game, he's a class keeper. That save he made in injury time in county final was amazing and he's always very strong under high ball. Still no Gary Connaughton though ;)

Delighted to see our crew back and representing the club for the county again. It has come at the perfect time.I'm expecting Mossy Quinn to run riot over Roscommon on Saturday night. It will be really interesting to see how his 45s and free kicks will go and if he'll kick with the same precision as he did in the Club Championships. It will also be interesting to see who will be the better free-taker between Mossy and Vaughan.Vaughan missed some free kicks for Crokes when they played us and his performance against Monaghan left a lot to be desired.I certainly rate Mossy as a better player from play but free kicks and 45s also win you games.Personally I'd love to see them play together on the grand stage.Seems that they are naturally competing together for that spot.

I still have a little reservation about Diarmuid Connolly though in the bigger games to come but in time he'll be disciplined and experienced and I don't think the Roscommon back line will be able to live or cope with him on Saturday. He had a rocky period against Nemo although he was the catalyst for our win with that beautifully taken goal and some points.I think playing more matches in Parnell Park with the Dubs may prepare him for the Croke Park outings.

As for our backs,Ger Brennan is back to really strengthen the defense.Pity he couldn't line out against Monaghan as I'm sure he would have done better.I'm also tipping him to come up from the backs and score a point or two at least.Thats a trait the Vinnies players have instilled in them.

Michael Savage in goal...what do you do when you take off the best goalkeeper in the country, replace him with the best goalkeeper in Dublin.I'm sure he'll keep a clean sheet.I also rate him higher than Connaughton by the way.I think Connaughton is a bit over-rated by most.He had a great season in 2004 but sometimes the basics mistakes are made by him. That botched catch against Longford springs to mind.

Also Whelo makes his first start. It just goes from bad to worse for Roscommon.

Its a strong team, hopefully some of the new lads will put the pressure on their fellow Dubs. Competition for places is a good thing.

Delighted to see the Vinnies lads get their chance and hopefully Tiernan will get a place on the bench. Delighted for Savo aswell because I've seen first hand the amount of work he's put in to get to where he is today. He was always a class keeper but his kickouts were his biggest weakness. He's worked really hard on them over the last few years and you definitely couldn't call it a weakness now. You can see how all that gym work has paid off aswell when he goes up for a high ball (here & here). He's also a top class shot-stopper, only bettered by Cluxton imho. The only person standing in his way is the best goalkeeper in the country!:D

Not much needs to be said about Dermo, Mossy and Ger. Dermo is showing signs that he's beginning to mature, particularly with the way he played in the AI semis and final with Vins. Has the potential to be top class but he'll need a good manager to guide him.

As for Tiernan, I really hope he gets his chance. Very underrated footballer and was pivotal to Vins claiming the AI Club Championship, both with his workrate and mopping up the breaking ball around the middle of the field and his distribution, particularly the high ball into full-forward that was flicked on to an onrushing Vins player. This pass in the semis and this pass in the final were absolutely beautiful:

He's also had a horrible run of injuries since he came out of minor, fracturing his tibia and fibula in a hurling match against Ballyboden and tearing his cruciate ligament. Think he's had another serious injury during that time aswell but I'm not 100%.

Anyway, about the Dubs!:D I think that team should be too strong for Roscommon, particularly in the forward line. Not sure about Paddy Andrews at wing back either. It just goes to show the strength in depth of this Dublin panel though, which is brilliant.:)
