    i recently came off the pill as it was making me very hormonal. thought it would also be a good idea to give my system a break after being on it for 2years. Talked it through with my boyfriend and he agreed it was a good idea(probably because the poor guy was on the receiving end of my hormones!)We decided we'd just have to extra vigilant with condoms etc.
    Thing is, we've found ourselves becoming increasingly paranoid about the condoms not working/splitting/coming off and it's putting a major dampener on proceedings!I don't want to have to worry every time we have sex.
    I don't want to go back on the pill as it really fcked with my head...thinking about maybe trying the patch,does anyone know if that's less likely to make me mad?any advice much appreciated!

    All pills and other forms of hormonal contraception affect all women differently. You came off one brand of pill. Another brand of pill might suit you better. You should arrange to talk to your GP and investigate the options open to you.

    There is now also the option of the Contraceptive patch
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contraceptive_patch

    and the Nuvaring
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NuvaRing

    Also the differnt brands of pill have differnt levels of the hormones so it may take you a while to find the right one.

    Or you can take a look at barrier contraceptives.

    Barrier contraceptives don't use artificial horrormoan but block the sperms access to the womb.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrier_contraception

    The following are barrier methods of contraception.

    * Condom
    * Cervical cap
    * Diaphragm (contraception)
    * Female condom
    * Lea's shield

    I would suggest that you read up as much as possible and then talk to your dr.

    Have a read through this OP and then go to your Family Planning Clinic and they can run through these options with you

    A good, non-hormonal method is to use condoms and a diaphragm together, you'll have a bit more peace of mind than from using condoms alone :)

    I*recently did a project on female chemical contraception but im not a professional and you should talk to your doctor about this.

    Have you considered the injection (brand name:*Depo-provera)?*Or perhaps the coil?
    The major downside with teh injection is that you can only use it for 2 years (but only one injection every 12 weeks) because there can be bone density issues later in life.

    You may also consider the implant (implanon) but I have heard many stories about it being taken out early due to bleeding irregularities.

    I must say that I use Nuvaring and find it great, it's a very low dosage too which might suit.

    Op have a read of this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055235968

    From what I can see you're best option is to go to the IFPA and discuss your options with them. In my experience, I have not found the information provided to me by several doctors to be up to scratch.

    There is no one pill/contraceptive that fits all I'm afraid.

    With regard to the depo provera, or injection as it's known, if you suffer any side effects from it, you have no option to remove it from you system and have to wait it out.

    That is true. OP, what kind of pill were you on?*Combined or progesterone only (minipill)?*Id predict a similar reaction to depo-provera if you had complications with the mini pill as both of them are progesterone only and maybe even worse as the injection is a very high dose and you are stuck with it for 3 months if it doesnt work well.

    hi everyone,
    cheers for the replies!went to my local GP and had a good chat with her about my problem.she told me that there's nothing we can really do apart from test different soloutions. She gave me a prescription for the evra patch so I'm gonna see how that suits me!
