    Hi all,

    Have looked around but can't find anything - are there any plans available showing what the new sandyford interchanges will be like? I see the diggers are in, just can't find any sketches.

    Thanks

    i didnt think they were going to upgrade the interchange at sandyford as the upgrade 3 lanes starts after you get onto the m50, as after sandyford the m50 will stay as 2 lanes to bray.

    They're doing something to it - there are diggers in on both north and south side of the M50 at the roundabout near the beacon crossroads, just curious as to what they are actually doing!

    There won't be much changes to the Sandyford junction during the M50 upgrade. However, apart from a D3M to as far as the N31 exit, the Sandyford rotary will be augmented with 3 new left-hand slips:

    1) Green Route East to Drummartin Link North;
    2) M50 North to R113 South (towards Ballyogan);
    3) R113 North to Green Route West.

    Have to go -

    Regards!

    No doubt this wonderful website has it all
    http://www.m50concession.ie/

    another case of treating the public with contempt.:mad:

    I totally agree - that website (did I say 'website'! :rolleyes:) is a total disgrace! :mad: Sure the m50.ie site was up quicker when phase 1 commenced. What's even worse is that there are signs all along the M50 advertising www.m50concession.ie for the past few months - though I guess the web developers (or whoever is in charge) were well on time in prepartion for yesterday morning! :rolleyes:

    BTW, there's a bit relating to phase 2 on www.m50.ie - doesn't say much! :mad:

    Regards!

    Sorry if there is a more recent thread about this, but I was wondering what, if any, progress was being made with the M50 from Ballymount to Sandyford? I drive this road occasionally in the evenings or at weekends, and notice a distinct lack of progress relative to Phase II, and there never seems to be anyone working at these times (which cannot be said for Phase II where they're always at work!).

    Firstly, the section you're on about IS Phase II, there are two parts to it. The northern section is ahead right now, but requires several complex junctions to be built so may well take longer to finish than the southern half. The whole upgrade mirrors the original construction of the M50 - Western, Northern, Southern.

    from other Phase II of M50 thread...
    Highlight updates on junctions and progress.. (graphics and lots more text in the link...)
    N81 Junction No 11:
    Works will include the construction of a new free-flow sliproad from the N81 eastbound to M50 northbound and the upgrade of the existing Northbound On-ramp to 2 lanes. All other traffic movements will remain the same.

    "New" Scholarstown-Firhouse Junction No 12:
    The reconfiguration of the existing bridge to three lanes travelling in an eastern direction and a one way cyclist/pedestrian lane
    ■ the construction of a new three lane bridge to carry traffic in a western direction
    ■ The construction of a new one way pedestrian/cyclist bridge to the south of the existing structure.

    Sandyford Junction No 14
    The upgrade to the Sandyford Junction includes the construction of three new free-flow left-turning slip-roads in the Northwest, Southwest and Northeast quadrants.

    Progress to Date
    At present works are well under way on the construction of the widening of the existing M50 mainline to facilitate the addition of the third lane in both directions. This part of the works in the Southern Section (between N81 and J14 Sandyford) is expected to be completed in March 09 after which traffic will be rerouted onto the newly constructed lanes which will facilitate
    3-4 month or so before traffic will flow on newly constructed lanes.. Three month of island diversion and broken down cars in isolated single lanes - I can feel the pain already.

    Thanks Irish and Proud. I had difficulties finding info on this interchange too.

    Agreed that work on the southern widening is proceeding very slowly. I've seen very little progress in the last few months.

    Good point - but the reason for this ordering is probably just cause it's in the order of highest to lowest traffic counts. Western part of M50 is busiest, followed by the northern bit, with the southern section being the quietest.
