Ollie Le Roux

It looks like Ollie Le Roux is going to coach the Chetahs next season.

I wouldn't agree with the media assessment that he has been a "revelation," this season. Too many handling errors and mistakes for my liking.

However, I really do like him. I think his experience and presence raise the other player's games and I doubt the opposition look forward to playing against him. Cian Healy probably learned the most from him too. His work-rate was also phenomenal.

Thanks Ollie and all the best!

Disappointed to see him go, younger squad members would really have benefited if he was around for a few more years.

Ollie has been fantastic for leinster, i'll be sad to see him go. Without him, how could we ever have had the widest front row known to man, with him at 2, and knoop and wright either side??

honestly i think he has been one of the best front rowers int he world this year....despite his size he has immense speed and handling ability....a great loss to the province in every sense of the word....a true professional

Does this mean that there actually might be the slimmest chance of a Irish player being in the front row now for Leinster? Seems like a waste of money to me that when they reason they needed him most which was for the HC and it didnt make much of a difference. Couldnt they have at least gotten a better long term prop even?

In fairness, Healy is just not ready yet (still got a good amount of gametime though which will help), Knoop (who is Irish qualified) got injured just when he was solidifying his place somewhat and we have two Irish hookers. If he could have stayed one more year it would have been perfect, as I think Healy would be ready to be first choice then. As things stand though, Wright can move to LH and Knoop can come in at TH.

But he's a Puma, who played with Stade Francais

    I think we've been duped

Who's the replacement for Ollie, rumours are it's an International prop ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,260 ✭✭✭jdivision

Thornley today said they've lined up another international prop to replace him and have a couple of other noteworthy signings in the works. Healy needs to add bulk before he can live at the top level, that'll take a while so signing somebody else in the meantime is probably the way to go.

Healy has to much muscle to be a good prop. He needs to cut the protein and hit the pies. Ollie will be missed at Leinster he really was a good signing, especially for someone his age.

Is this an April fools comment?? If not please explain how too much muscle tissue inhibits a strength athlete:confused:?

What I mean is he's too lean to be a prop, come on, where's the moobs and the gut?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 28,146 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

He's bigger than Horan already. Still needs to beef up somewhat as Horan is obviously not the ideal specimen himself. It's probably more skill and experience than size that's troubling him at the moment though, but that'll come with time.

Everything going right Healy should be at the very leasy challenging for an Ireland spot in 2/3 years. Can't see him being anything but a fringe player around the national squad until then. I'd like to be wrong though, he has a long career ahead of him.

AH too lean. From your message before you said he should loose muscle. I would agree with you on this one - more mass (with some fat) would definitely help the lad - he is a prop after all.

Either way I am quite impressed with Healy's development this season. Out with the short shorts and tucked collar and in with the pies for Mr Healy!:D

Dang! I hope Healy reading this forum, I'd love a forum suggesting that I should eat pies! I love pies.

You never need more fat. Its just dead weight. Case in point:

Ah yeah but he's the best prop in the world and is fine human who if he wasnt playing rugby would be a surely turned into a Olympic weight lifter. But yeah him and Carl Heyman are the other end of props were its the sheer size of you opposed to the size you put on

Agree himself and Contemponi have been the most influential players this season without whom we wouldn't be in the position we are in.

I agree, I think we've been very lucky with the quality of players that were brought in this season as well (with the exception of gomez ;)). Cullen and Jennings coming back, signing Ollie even if it was only for the season, its made a big difference.

Thought he was badly shown up in the HEC, and ultimately, was part of the reason Leinster folding in their group.

Has done well in the ML, but the ML isn't known for it's propping.
