slr upgrade advice

    i have an Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5 which i love but which to upgrade to a higher spec model for capturing sports pictures any advice from anyone would be great , a friend of mine has a Nikon D80 DSLR and Nikon DX 18-135 lens for sale is this a good camera thx

    Yes.

    The D80 is rumoured to be up for an upgrade very shortly though (people expect an announcement either today or tomorrow. The 18-135mm lens is a decent performer from what I hear.

    In comparison with Canon's offerings the D80 straddles the gap between the 400D and 30D (companies like to indirectly compete) so if you're looking for more than a basic dSLR (D60) but not a true semi-pro one (D300) then this camera will suitable for your use.

    That would be a good move up to a D80, I had one of the Panasonic cameras and moved from that to a Canon EOS 350d and it opened a new world and emptied my wallet :)
