Cash Games at Private Members Clubs

    Hi

I was just wondering, if I am running an event in say a golf club, which in its self is a private members club, can I run cash games legally? The fitzwilliam card club is only a private members club as is the Sporting Emporium so is it legal to play cash games in private members clubs where the main focus is not poker?

I am going obviously to seek legal opinion on this aswell but just wanted to know peoples thoughts/thoughts of any event organisers who have taken legal advise on this issue before.

    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Ian

Im not sure this is correct. The Golf club is a private members club but are the punters all members of the Golf club? I doubt it! I'm not trying to put you off running cash games as I think you should, its a grey area at the moment whether you are allowed to or not but with so many other tourney organisers doing it you should go for it.

In the north you can hold poker tournaments in a private members club as long as it is not the main activity of the club, members can play any stakes but the house/club cannot take any profit/rake. It could well be different for the South but up in dinosaurland thats the rules.

As is normal on boards (across all forums) please do not seek or give legal advice here. I would advise you to talk to the people involved in clubs who have sought this clarification before, or else take legal advice from a solicitor etc.

My personal opinion on this, and what I have heard before, is that until legislation comes in, casinos are operating in a grey area.
