According to the divx website, all you need is the OS.

Do you want to play the DVD in a normal DVD player or in a DVD DivX player?

If you want to convert the DivX file to vob files for DVD consumption you can convert and create a disc image with ffmpegX and burn the image from disk utilities or toast.

If you want to play the divX in a divX player just copy it to the dvd via the OS (put in a black dvd and drag the file onto it, right click or ctrl-click and burn).

    cheers breezer and nialler..

I want to play the dvds in a regular dvd player.. can ffmpegX and toast be downloaded for free?

ffmpegx is free, Toast isn't. But you can use the disc utility instead.

This has pretty much all you need to know- just ignore the part about subtitles if it doesn't apply.

I think Breezer's post wasn't too far off (well not in my case anyhow!). I can seem to just drag just about any Divx/Xvid film onto the iDVD window and it'll make a DVD. Although I don't know whether this can be done with just the free Divx player installed or something like 'Perian' as I have the mpeg2 QT component and also Toast, which appears to install some kind of divx player components.

Also Mpeg Streamclip is a free and pretty good convertor for stuff.
