DVI-to-HDMI convertor ---> acceptable ?

Hi folks

Have a good graphics card in my MCE machine, 512mb and a DVI output and it's great when connected to my Acer 32" 820p LCD. However, I am buying a Wharfdale 47" 1080p screen*, which has HDMI ports (and analog VGA too).

I don't care about HD-DVD/etc right now, but I still want as best a picture as I can get. Will I be compromising things by putting a convertor between the DVI output and the screen's HDMI input ? ie. does that give the screen an analog signal or anything like that ?

I will install a HDMI card if I have to, but as a last resort since the card I have is perfectly acceptable otherwise.

BTW been using a Vista MCE machine for about 6 months now - love it, although it starting to have problems installing updates from WindowsUpdate (would repeatedly reboot and not startup) - am installing a standalone copy of SP1 now to see if that solves the problem. Was using XP-MCE before that, and it was totally fine.

DVI and HDMI are pin for pin compatible , but for the digital signals only , HDMI does not do any form of analog , its a digital only connection.

DVI can carry analog as well , but thats only for backwards compatibility with VGA computer monitors , on a HDTV the best input to use is HDMI , by a long shot.

So , all you need is a DVI to HDMI cable ,

That will get video to your TV, as sharp and as clear as it can be , you have to run another cable for audio though , as DVI doesnt do that.
