Folks, over the past 2-3 weeks I have been hearing about this dose that is doing the rounds. Its suppose to be a 24hour bug but can last long over a week.
My nephews and nieces have had it, got rid of it and gotten it again to the point one of them ended up in hospital for a few days but doctors and nurses say there is nothign that will shift it.
My sister, her hubby and a good few others I know have also had it and now I am suffering through it.

On Saturday while surfing boards I got a twinge in my stomach and said I would just go asleep, that was around 11pm. From then for the next 12 hours I was in the toilet as sick as a dog. I mean even a tiny sip of water and it would come straight back up so it was pointless taking any medicines for it. Since then I have managed to take in about a slice and a half of toast, my stomach and chest are in so much pain its not even funny. I have a severe lack of energ and I can't sleep because of it. As most of my family have had this and gone to the doctor, the advise given was to just carry on and it would eventually leave.......

So i ask boardsies.... have you experienced this dose??
If so what has helped you through it??
Why on earth should I pay €50 to see my doctor so they can just say there is nothing that can be done??
What on earth is causin these bad bugs lately??

Had a bad headcold over the weekend. Had to take a couple of days off work, which is rare for me. A few other people I know have bugs as well, but all flu-like

There is somethign going around, no idea what though. We're due a pandemic anyway :-) - anyone watch The Stand?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The weather. Temperatures have been up and down since January (warm one week then suddenly plummetting to zero the next), and each major shift in the weather tends to catch your immune system off guard.
Then put thousands of people with weakened immune systems into one place and presto sicko.

No. And stop calling it dose.

I had a really serious one a few weeks back. Really knocked me for six, and was out of work for two days. A load of people in my department in work got it too.

Just got through it with plenty of lemsips and neurophen "cold & flu".

And something tells me Seamus might be right with the prognosis there.

people's immune systems being weaker because they aren't exposed to the same levels of dirt/bacteria as they would have 50 odd years back?

Didnt have a vomiting bug but caught a nasty chest infection. Thought I just had a bad cold but after 3 days of dying in work I went to the doctor and he told me I was mad for making myself go into work and spreading it round (which did happen - 2 people out with it aswell!). Gave me antibiotics and a sick cert for 2 days.
Was really horrible though, 2 days of bed rest and temperature.
Had a head cold for about a week after it too.
This is the first day in 2 weeks I am feeling back to normal!

...added to the fact that our intake of antibiotics both in medicine and in our food is contributing to the overall hardiness of the bacteria that cause such illness. Oh and our insistence on having antibacterial ingredients in every cleaning product imaginable. Simple celled organisms will inherit the Earth.

You shouldn't. There's absolutely no point in going to the doctor with a virus - it's a waste of the doctor's time and your money. Plus you're spreading your germs in the waiting room

I'd be inclined to believe it's the weather too. The extremities have been mental. Last night was fuppin' FREEZING!!! This morning I was being cooked in the office cos of the sun. Now it's dull and raining.

There appear to be two really, really nasty bugs going round - a respiratory infection (in the form of flu, sinusitis, chest infection) which is making people very, very sick - saturated bed sheets that need to be changed a few times a night kinda thing. And then there's the winter vomiting bug which you probably have, OP. Anyone I know who's had it says they felt like they were dying - and would have been quite happy to! ;) Sheer misery apparently. And either illness could be quite dangerous for babies or elderly people.
This isn't a forum for medical advice, but do get plenty of rest (sleep if possible) and try to keep your fluid intake high (if you can't keep it down, barely sip, and water instead of a sugary drink, as that might irritate your stomach).

Well im dying with fluey cold in my head type scenario, woke up with it this morning :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,738 ✭✭✭Naos

Woke up saturday with a few aches and feeling bit cold. Went out that night on a date, come Sunday morning was going from shivering cold to hot all day. No appetite, going to bed and waking up sweating. I never vomited though.

Now, in work and although my temperature is fine, from neck above is killing me.

I very rarely get sick if ever, why does it have to happen over the weekend, gah!

The word "flu" is much abused. If you have a cold - even a miserable one - and you can get out of bed and go to work/college, you don't have the flu. When you've the flu you literally cannot get out of bed (well ok you can but it's a struggle). I had the flu three years ago and I had to get out of bed to let my mum into the apartment - it actually hurt to get out and walk to the door, and the second I let her in I had to stagger back to bed. There was no way I could stand for even a second more than necessary.

Cold for the minor felling ill ones, bug for the 24 hour jobbies and flu for the more serious stay in bed types.

Ah, "dose" will cover all of those.

I was off last month for over a week with a chest infection & bad cold that I just couldn't shift - never take more than 2 or 3 days off sick usually in a year, but this year so far I've been off 7.5 days. Think I'm coming down with something again today, although hoping I won't need any more time off work!

My brother also got some weird virus last week. He was suffering with a really bad headache for a few days and eventually went to the doctor. He told told him to get checked for Meningitis. He went to the hospital where they said his white blood count was really low & they kept him in for 2 days. They don't know what was wrong with him, just said to get his white blood count checked in 2 weeks...

Yes, a dose of the relevant medicine.

The word "dose" just doesn't look like it is supposed to...hard to explain what I mean, but it's like it has lost all meaning or something. Like, when I read this thread title, I had to think twice about what a "dose" was...

...random I know, hopefully ya'll catch my drift!

Yup thats the one I have, I swear my insides are ripped apart from it. I lost just under a stone in one night. The belly just wouldn't stop heaving even though there was nothing in it.

I know its not for medical advise, just wondering why on earth doctors aren't bothered with these types of bugs anymore cos they spread so fast.

I have had plenty of sleep (In work at the moment but going home to bed in a few minutes) even sips of water weren't staying down. I remember years ago I had a dose about half as bad as this one and the doc came out game me an injection and when I got a few hours sleep I was right as rain.

I was given Motillium that wouldn't stay down and just told to try sleep it off..... I have to say if its the weather causing it I will just wear Thermal undies all year round so I sweat like a pig!! :p

Send a letter to Gormely ... tell him there's crypto in your water supply. Attach a vile of your movements as proof. Then within a matter of hours it will be on the news and all your neighbours will have it too. Even if they test the water and show it's not there it'll be too late because the mass panic will have set in ......

The story ends with your dose of the scours getting you a whole new water treatment works so at least your time on the bog has been spent productively.

I had a nasty dose for the last two weeks, which particularly sucks because last week was my holidays. :( But I was in tatters. Couldn't keep any food down and had the worst case of the drizzling ****s that I've ever had.

But on the plus side, I lost about 3 stone and all my old clothes fit me again. Hurrah!
