Heading straight to the course after work today and hoping to make it a regular Monday thing for the year... Can't wait!

Got a round (or the best part of a round) in last Wednesday and played lovely golf for nine holes, birdieing the ninth for five-over (hcp 15). Birdie was particularly sweet as I'd doubled the 8th (par three, no shot) after hitting my tee-shot OB.

Didn't realise until afterward when I was driving home, I only had 13 putts in those nine. I'm pretty sure that that's comfortably a record for me by at least 2 putts for nine holes... I one-putted the first four greens for two pars and two bogies - all putts were in the 6ft-20ft range... Funny, how easy 20 stapleford points could've been 16 if I'd two-putted those greens.

That Dave Pelz is right - it's alllllllll about the short game! :)

Anyone else headin straight to the course this evenin?

A few people were moaning yesterday to me about the clocks going forward and the one hour less they got in bed... all i was thinking is, great, golf after work is almost here again!

Still not enough light for me to get a meaningful number of holes in after work, but won't be long now.

Went out for a game yesterday and got 16 holes in. Felt my game was pretty good and it seems playing through the winter months has really helped.

First 18-hole singles comp is this weekend so can't wait! Must dig up the 2008 goals thread and see what i've to do!!

I am the oppositte. I hadn't hit a ball all winter (5 months) and haven't hit my driver as well.

Mostly helped by figuring out what was causing the problem. I had odd push in my drive but since resolved it and it the hunger for the game is back with a bang. Playing Mount Juliet this Saturday and can't wait.

Only putting left to cure. Anyone have a good drill for putting. Have a bad habit of moe the club face not straight back. Inital taken away can be shaky at times.

Something simple you can do to try and get your swing path straight back and straight through is to put two clubs down parallel to the line of a putt just slightly wider than the blade of your putter. You can then practice putting between the two clubs. I'd use this for a putt about 4/5 feet in length on a flat part of the practice green.

I used the old pegs down and no problem.

When I take them away it goes.

Maybe I need to concentrate slightly harder on this and reswing I start on the wrong path. Its the inital few inches on the takeaway. Kind if make a little semi-circle with the putter head.

I could write the book about putter head not going straight back :)
10 days ago I had 32 points with 1x 4 putt and 3x 3 putts (from nowhere too).
The trouble is when the putter head goes back shaky like that, i found myself watching it so the head couldn't be still, and it's very hard to have confidence in the stroke.

I am getting a custom face-balanced putter with a lot of weight in it. Also a short shaft so my left arm is extended (i'm a leftie at golf) which hopefully will take so of that out if it.
I am apprehensive about it because I'd rather conquer my demons and play with a traditional-looking club but I will give this a go... http://rifeputters.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=57

Sounds as though you are probaly thinking about the take-away far too much. Trsuting your stroke is key to successful putting.

I've also used the pathfinder (http://www.esotericgolf.com) and could hole 5 footers for sport on the practice green but can't translate this onto the course enough.
My issues with putting are certainly mental :D

how does the handicap system work for pitch and putt?

When I played P&P all them years ago it was done on a club by club bases.

No set standard way doing handicaps (cutting)

Its easy enough, all u do is join an affiliated pitch and putt club, do 6 cards, and the club will then send in for handicap for you, the handicpas go from +3 to -15, its split into three grades when the championship comes onlong - are u interested in joining a club

I would be yeah. Been playing my local pitch and putt course through the winter. For 54 holes my best is 12 under and i normally average around 9 under (all par 3s).

Has fairly sharpened up my short game

Played in Guinness. Had my days as they said best was -21 for 54 holes.

I would say my par would be 5 under (49).

As you can't always hit 8 or 9 under.

    Courses vary alot also.

Place in Fairview was very short close. Dangerous at times

Ye it CYMC really short course all holes are just a flick..do u not play no more

    I think so.

I don't play anymore since I started playing more and more golf

Hoping to play a few holes tomorrow afternoon.
Have only played 4 times since Oct,curtailed by abominable weather this Winter, never played so little golf in a Winter.
Need to work on a few minor swing changes so a few sessions in the practice ground might be in order.
