Hi, I just got my first mac. A brand new Macbook Pro. I'm still getting to grips with the mac way of doing things and so far I like it a lot.
I'm looking for a decent quick video converter to change AVI files to ipod format. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Yep, iSquint for converting to iPod. It has a bigger brother, Visualhub, which is useful for converting to everything else.

Check out MetaX too - it will edit the metadata on your movie files so they're properly organised in iTunes - it'll pull everything, including artwork, from amazon.

    Anyone using a hardware encoder?

I'm looking at buying a Turbo.264 or an Instant Video To Go for the windows part of my iLife.

Trouble finding them locally or available on eBay to Ireland.

Don't forget MacTheRipper & Handbrake for your DVD collection.

    Visual Hub is my favourite.

It can handle pretty much any format you throw at it and has settings built in for iPod too... I use it for my iPhone.

ffmpegx is quite handy too. +1 for visual hub, Handbrake and MTR.

I'm a longtime user of ffmpegx and can't fault it. Have to say I love these guys stuff:

    www.nullriver.com

Basically connect360, movie2ipod, connectPS3, connectPSP all work a treat on the mac.
