God if Mary O'Rourke mentions guts again I'm gonna puke:eek::eek:, lol at the captain who said, 'I knew we'd get her, I was hoping it would be anybody else!' she's being shown up for the spoofer she is, looks like it could be the 1st time ever I want a Westmeath team to lose in an All-Ireland sries!

Didn't know Mayfield were intermediate football, thought it was a mainly soccer area. Best of luck to them.

Gerald Keane is probably one of the few likeable celebs on the show, seems genuine.

I saw the end of that last night. Glenda Gilson?

    I'd hit it.

    That is all. :D

i think gerald keane is the most annoying manager i have ever seen or watched. talk about being totally full of yourself.
i hope gordan strachan will continue to play such a pivotal role in their succes ,,lol:)

Don't read if you don't want spoilers!
Apparently Kean is organising free buses to and from Parnell Park for Mayfield supporters. Should provide for a good show of fans.

Just finished watching the Kiltimagh episode, God it was dreadful. Aoibhainn didn't have a clue, just repeating whatever Liam McHale was telling her to say. Did they really have to play the theme tune to Platoon to build up the match. They also use dubbed in noise for the crowd to make it seem like there's more then 500 people at the match. Even Michael's commentary sounds like he's reading whatever Fiona Looney puts in front of him.

It's major cringe tv, the Cork crowd shouting Keano at the end of the first episode set the standerd. I thought the one with John Kenny would have been good crack and the same went for Ivan Yates. I agree that it had potential but could they have gotten some celebrities that had a remote clue about playing football or any team game?

I'll watch next weeks to see what happened with Mary O'Rourke but thats it for me. Again rte makes a bags of a perfectly sound idea.

A great idea for tv but alot of it is cringing to watch.

The most shocking part about tongiht was the state of the field! Could they not have cut it or at least let some sheep on for a few weeks! It was dreadful

I'm not sure if its even that great of an idea, well certainly not enough to carry out over so many weeks! The dramatic music and commentary and the words of wisdom by the management sounds so so so cheesy its impossible to watch. Fair play to the teams for taking part i guess.....i know i would not want to be part of this muck if my team were put forward for it.....but i guess it raises club profile a bit and might help sponsorship etc.

I think there's 10 grand or so for the winners and the clubs taking part seem to be intermediate at best so it's a chance to raise their profille, loved that bit last night where Aoibheann shouted "block" from the sideline and the camera cuts to a Kiltimagh man blocking down his opponents kick - I guess he must have heard her.

This could have worked with former gaa players as the managers or with maybe other sports stars.

Since when is Gerard Keane a celebrity?

Since he shacked up with Lisa Murhpy - she being famous for going out with Flately!

More junk last night, I noticed when they put up the head to head logo for the final it's clearly Aoibheann's head that's blacked out, I can't quite make out the other one. Maybe I should post this on the conspiracy theories section. Marty's mother born in Kilbeggen, had to laugh at that Westmeath connection - could they have not got Michael O'Leary? WTF is that Baz lad, another one who made it in under the parents rule.

I think the odds of this getting a re-run are slim enough though I haven't checked the viewing figures.

The final is on Friday, May 16th, in Parnell Park. Certainly another GAA Boards Beers opportunity. :) Anyone up for it?

The match may not be a classic, but it is another chance for some of us to meet up before the championship kicks in. We had thought that the last one we had, the Dublin v Westmeath match, might be our last before the championship, but this is another opportunity It will probably be our last in Kitty's for a while and once the championship comes, we'll be back to Madigan's on O'Connell Street which served us well last year.

All our GAA Boards Beers have been good. The only downside is that not enough of people have come. There are lots of regular posters here who we hope would come along. Over the coming months we hope to extend our motley crew. So, if you are in the Dublin area and free that night, why not come along? If not then, then come along during the summer months at some stage.

I'll be in Dublin with the rest of Donegal on September 21st. :p

I know we have friends there, but I didn't think all of Donegal would come down to support the Dubs.:p As much as we'd value the support, I think you should leave all the tickets for us. :p

Aoibhainn's episode was top quality. She is a stunning looking woman.

Her looks aren't in question, the fact that she hasn't a clue about GAA or how to manage a team seems to have passed you by. That and the program itself is getting worse. Lucky tickets for the final are free. The only good thing is that all them schoolkids got some time off in Kiltimagh to wave their heros goodbye. Since when is this a recognised all Ireland eh? I don't remember that motion at the last GAA AGM.

Sorry to point this out to you, but her looks are very much the reason she was there. It's celebrity banisteoir, any TV program with the title celebrity anything should be taken with a pinch of salt. You're right it's not a great GAA production. But it's an RTE family entertainment production, not a sporting event. It's a laugh and exposure for these so call celebrities.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭aidan24326

As Marse said any program that calls itself 'celebrity' this or that is to be taken with a big pinch of salt. Aoibheann Ni Shuilleabhan mightn't know much about football but she is nice to look at and most of the other 'celebrities' don't know sod all either.

Mary O'Rourke came across very badly. She seemed like a total wagon, and it's a safe bet they won't be asking her back again. Next time (if there is a next time) they could try doing the series with celebrities (ahem) who actually have a bit of sporting background or would have some clue about training a team.

Does anyone know where you get the tickets for the final? thanks

Seemingly she got into a lot of trouble from the local Fianna Fail for pulling out of the series, how she came across is how she is. The only good thing is about it for the players involved it gives them a bit of fame that they are unlikely to get again.

She was very rude and appeared completely uninterested from the start. She stayed for about an hour of what I think was the first training session, and then fecked off in the middle of it implying snottily she had much more important things to be doing. She then pulled out of it altogether leaving them in the lurch. That's when Marty Whelan was asked to come in as a late replacement. Let's just say she didn't come off well, and I'm told she's not the most pleasant creature in real life either.

Quiet the opposite in-fact ... She is one of the more honest politicians i have ever met with in person, both inside and outside Leinster House. She can have her moments and i'm sure she regrets her actions now but look how it turned out in the end for the club ... Marty brought them to the final and fair play to him for that ... Must have hit the club having Mary walk out but the motivation and belief that Marty has re-inforced in them is commendable IMO

More classic stuff - Maryland team presented to the crowd in Pearse Park, Longford on Sunday before the Westmeath V Longford Game at 15.30 to congragulate them on winning their semi final. 18.30 on rte the very same day - Maryland semi-final, Jez I wonder who won that one.

Tickets available at the gate afaik. Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure it's free entry. Heading up tomorrow with hundreds of Mayfield supporters, should be a right laugh win or lose.

Tickets are free. You can e-mail as I said in a previous post and in the response you get you are told that you can print off as many copies of the tickets as you want. I've printed off 3, so that means there could be two spare if anyone wants one. If they are just going to let people in in any case, then that may not be relevant.

For any of you that are going tonight and would like to meet up with some of the rest of us, these are our arrangements. There is a Community Centre on the Clancarthy Road which is the road that runs immediately behind the pedestrian entrance to Parnell Park. There is a main entrance on the Collins Avenue side, but there is a small doorway on the Clancarthy Road side which is where we'll be meeting at about 6:30. Myself, Blackbelt, Tir Eoghain and a few others will be there. If you don't feel brave enough up to walk up and ask for us by usernames :) you can get contact numbers by sending me a PM. After the game we'll adjourn to Kitty Kiernan's, a short walk away on Collins Avenue, where you could also meet us if you can't before or during the game.
