    Entheogenic chemicals, meh...

It contains some inaccuracies, Bill Wilson investigated LSD but he had his spiritual experience and got sober in 1936, long before acid was discovered.

I don't think there's a chemical route to spiritual well-being: LSD just pushes some buttons in the brain. Still, it's an interesting piece of speculation about the origins of spiritual tradition.

It pushes the similar buttons in the brain to religious/spiritual experiences, states which are achieved through fasting, meditating, sleep deprivation, dreams and simply very strong belief in something.

Spiritual well being is a concept I'm not familiar with, so I can't comment on that.

Personally, drugs are the closest thing to a "spiritual side" in my life(though some music and films would be included here also). That's not to say I abuse them, they just take me to wonderful, amazing places.

I do think it's very likely that most religions originated due to use of drugs(or possibly any of the above things I listed) by ancient people.
