I have a dell dimension 4600 desktop , | installed a second hard drive into it and it has not worked since, I took the hard drive out and its still not working when i turn it on there is no output to the monitor , now the monitor is working because it works with my laptop , when turned on the computer makes a strange beeping sound and when i press the on/off button it turns off instantly , the thing is when i put the second hard drive in i didnt know to set the jumpers , i found out this recently on the internet also i had windows xp operating system installed on the second hard drive, see i had the second hard drive working on the computer on its own with the original dissconected and then when i connected the two hard drives simultaneously on the computer whatever happened it has not worked since, it turns on but its like its not booting at all and the monitor is blank as if there is no output to the monitor. I would like to fix my computer but how do I diagnose what is wrong with it and is it a case of installing a new component?

Are the led's flashing on your keyboard?
And what type of beep is it?
It sounds to me like you have a loose stick of ram .

No the leds do not flash on the keyboard, the beep is a continuous soft noise, also normally to turn off the computer i would have to press the button for ten seconds but now when i press it the computer turns off instantly, there is absolutely no output to the monitor , i dont think its the ram because i did,not go near the ram and it looks ok. Thanks for the reply.

i press the on/off button it turns off instantly
Mr.s maybe you missed that part.

Power connector connected to the graphics card is another thing .
A floppy cable put in backwards is another thing.
Thats all i can think of for now.

    goodluck

Is it asking you to press f1 or anything like that?
On the bios screen aswell does it list your hard drive?
    Glad you got it fixed.
