My brother is heading out to New York soon. So I was wondering if anyone here knew of the best/cheapest shops in New York for buying a new laptop/mac book???

any help would be much appreciated. :)

Probably the Apple Store on corner of Central Park would be your best bet. If you walk right to the top of 7th avenue so your looking at central park , turn right and walk straight to the end of the street you'll see the Apple store in all its glory! Won't find the laptop any cheaper than there I imagine. Although I do remember CompUSA (if thery're still open) on 5th or 6th Avenue doing refirbished Mac's if that interests you.

CompUSA don't exist anymore.. There is a few Best Buy's in Manhattan. One is south from the CompUSA that the poster above mentioned..

As for not finding a laptop for any cheaper than the Apple store :| If you were abe to find the other stores, you would prob be able to save quite a bit.

I bought a basic Gateway laptop for my sis when I over their in August. Twas a 1.7 GHz Celeron, 512mb RAM, 80GB HDD, DVD-RW with a 14.1 inch screen. Cost $370 at the time. Just swapped out the power cable and had no problems.

J & R seemed like a pretty good shop when I was last in it (in 2003)

their website seems pretty good too: http://www.jr.com

I'm not sure how they compare price-wise though
