Well I've finally managed to scrape together enough for the 5D, and with exchange rates as they are at the mo I'm gonna take the plunge and order this weekend. I'm trying to keep cost to a minimum - going without the grip for the time being etc. I'm ordering from KEA. There's an option to buy the extended international warranty for 40 sterling. Is this a no-brainer? I know 50 odd quid isn't much but its that tight. Or is it like when Argos try to get you to buy extended warranties for your kettle? What exactly are the advantages? I haven't a clue how these things work..

in general the waranties that are sold by dixons and the like are not worth the money. You buy something for 200 euro and they offer an extended warranty for say 50 euro.

what is chance of it being broken. THe chances are low I would have thought for a TV or DVD player etc. A camera might be a different story.

Then you have to consider if the item breaks do you really want it fixed or has it at the stage reached its technological end of life. For example your VCR breaks down. Do you want it fixed given that everything is DVD now. A camera will still be good in a few years even if only as a spare body if you are tempted to buy another body due to upgrade lust.

even if you dont use the extended warranty, it is peace of mind if something goes wrong. Would you still have to pay postage etc so depending on what is wrong how much would you save sending it back for repair rather than getting it repaired in IRL

    my 2c anyway

Is it really late in the 5Ds life to get one - surely the replacement cant be far off now - mind you theres nothing but rumours still

Just a thought - Mind you theres a guy at work with one and he loves it.

any opinions from ebay purchasers ? Is this a world wide warranty ?
i got a snap shot camera for 400 euros and i think it got water damage and it got fixed for free luckily ! So i'm in favour considering its worldwide, although they wont fix water damage , still.
