    Hi there,
I am pregnant and baby is due at end of May 08 - I'm booking a family holiday in Italy for the beginning of Sept (Flights with RyanAir). As my baby is not yet born and has no name just now I was wondering what their name policy would be when booking online. Needless to say I cant get in touch with them and there is nothing clear on their site. Could I put in 'baby' or 'tbc' in the first name field and enter their surname? Anyone have any experience with this one? Txs in advance:-):)

This is probably one of the most fantastic conundrums I've ever encountered! :p

This mightn't be the optimum approach to the situation, but you could book him/her under another name, and then use the name change facility once the little tyke has been born and given a label! The name change does come at a cost, however. Shock, horror!

It's a good one alright - I had the same thing with Budget Travel a few years back and they told me to put Baby Surname on the online form and they changed no hassle with a quick phonecall when she was born.

Ryanair are another story though - I'm sure this has come up for them before and a phonecall will probably sort it out. Don't be surprised if they are not helpful or want to charge you though..

I have done this before....booked the ticket in my chosen boy's name and the surname...turned out it was a girl not a boy!! It didn't matter in the slightest...there was no need for passports for kids at the time.....

do they need them now??...I don't think so...I will read the small print on their site and find out...

this is taken from their site

N.B. Children under 16 years (including infants) travelling with an adult are required to have photo-ID when travelling on flights between EEA countries. Acceptable photo-ID for children under 16 is either a valid passport or a valid National Identity Card issued by an EEA country.

Photo-ID for children under 16 years is not required for:

I guess to go to Italy you will need their photo ID for them...can't figure a way around it I'm afraid...unless book the infant's ticket after their birth ...but you probably can't book that on its own without booking an adult's ticket at the same time....Ryanair are great fun:D

Txs everyone. Finally managed to call them today and actually spoke to a human being...First time for everything. Anyway they were quite nice and very reasonable. They said to but Baby as their first name and then call them when bambino arrives and they will be happy to change the name for free. This is the first positive customer service experience Ive ever had with them:-) Thanks for your replies... ;):)
