Hi all, thanks for reading and hopefully the help!

i have a media centre pc, (fairly new about 2 years old) downstairs hooked up to BT 3mb broadband,
I also have a dell dimension 4500 (over 5 years old) i wanna bring my pc upstairs to my room and put the old dell back for the family use,

to get access to broadband in my room i reckon the best option would be to get wireless so both computers upstairs and downstairs can use the net.

I really doubt the dell will be compatable with wireless (although i don't actually know the specifications needed !)

And i was just wondering, if the dell is not able to use wireless what are my options.

Can i use my old modem for the dell and have the wireless aswell ?
Can i buy a simple usb key to connect?

I rang esat on the freephone number but they said it was a technical issue, i'd rather get a decent answer from boards for free ;)

    Regards

If the Dell has a PCI slot or USB than you can easily add wireless capability to it. A recent enough OS like WinXP would help though.

Here's a quick example of one of these keys.

Adding wireless adapters to both machines will allow an ad-hoc wireless connectivity between them. If you want them to access the broadband connection if would be best to use a wireless router for the PC's to connect to.

Or alternately you could set up connection sharing on the PC that's connected by wire to the broadband connection, but that's fiddly and requires the PC to be on to provide access for the other one.
