Taxi's in Paris

Flying to Paris tomorrow (CDG) and the train/metro trip looks a bit convoluted. If we got the train into Chatelet (for example) and then hopped into a cab, are we going to be ripped off big time?

Any last minute tips for this weekend in Paris (Sat-Tues)? :)

Outside the doors of CDG are the Rossi Buses, they will bring you into the city centre and run fairly often. I've always caught them with no problem. I usually catch the one to the Opera, but I believe there's one that goes to the train station too.

My experience of taxis in Paris is like Dublin, they will rip you off if they can get away with it.
One experience sticks out, we caught a taxi to the Bastille from our hotel, it took 20mins to get there.
On the way back we were slightly the worse for wear and when the taxi driver realised that, he wanted us out of the taxi asap - it took 5 mins to get back.
My advice is, stick to the buses and the metro.

To be honest, getting to Chatelet is half the battle!
That said, I was there last week and had to get from Chatalet to St. Lazare, then another train out of paris.
Changing trains within the metro system if you're not sure where you're going is bad enough, with luggage I imagine it's horrid!
I can't imagine saving the cash of a taxi would be worth the hassle if you're staying fairly centrally.
If it were me, I'd find the closest RER station to my final destination, go there, and get a taxi the rest of the way.

FYI, a taxi from the airport to the city centre (Opera) is about €45-50

Yep. A taxi to the edge of Paris is €35. Then it's a matter of traffic deciding the price.

Where exactly is your hotel? And how many of you are there? It could be better getting a shuttlebus.

Paris is cold and wet today so don't forget the Aran jumper :)
