I'm looking to buy a pop top vwt4 on the continent as soon as I sell my type 2, I understand the revenue seem to have clamped down on the 1.8 metre rule but want to know if they are flexible at all ? even if the van is a factory conversion?
    Thanks.

To be honest I don't know.
Take a look at this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055216589
Celerond seems to have managed to register a manufactured camper, without the 1.8m requirement, as a camper.

Contact Bill Lupton at the Motor Caravan Club of Ireland. You can reach them on 01 - 825 1364 or www.motorcaravanclub.net.

He's a cranky old bugger but absolutely straight and he has good advice, but check out their FAQ page first.

Thanks for the replies, I'm aware of the 180cm rule which is pretty clear about the top being down. However, when I registered my type 2 pop up I got away with it even though the vro mentioned the rule to me. Since then I'd kind of assumed the rule was more discretionary in order to disqualify vans that were obviously not going to be used as campers.
Lately though I've heard that they are clamping down on this rule and would like to know if anyone has been successful lately in registering a pop top as a camper.
It's pop tops all the way for me!!

Hi op, I've pm'ed you, I think the rules can be somewhat hazy, depending on how modified the van is and who assesses it on the day!
