Is there any way to add music from two computers to an iPhone without erasing everything first. Is there even any way to add music without using the sync function?

Did you try and send the music files via Bluetooth?

AFAIK, iPhone's bluetooth can only be used for telephoney stuff, not data. I think the standard USB-iTunes interface would be the best way to go.

I had to help someone out recently with a Nano, my first encounter with the Mac way. Anyway I got an (shareware)app called "Floola" and this allows complete manual control of what goes where etc. You have to make some changes to iPod, turning it into basically a "mass storage device"

Also have a look at this link - http://www.antidrm.hpg.ig.com.br/ - lots of info on iPod/iTunes DRM etc.

    🧐IMHO, God wants us all to ENJOY many,many ice-creams , 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦

So you confirm that one cannot use the iPhone for music unless you use the sync feature, which in turn locks you to using 1 computer? (without hacks that is)

I thought that Ipods (apart from the shuffles) now were tied to OS but not to specific machine libraries?

i.e. you can sync between 2 windows libraries, or 2 OSX libraries but not a windows and a osx.

On the iPod you don't HAVE to sync, you can set it to manage music manually and still sync things like contacts, photos and calenders.

Not sure about the iPhone though but I would have thought it was the same from the iPod POV.

I'm 90% sure that at one point I could manually drag and drop music to the iPhone. I just can't get it to do that now. Tried on mac and PC. Anyone with an iPhone had similar problem?

Doesn't that still involve syncing it to a playlist though?

In any case, OP, just use a third-party app such as the one I linked to above.

You can add music to an iphone manually. They added this recently, so make sure you're using the latest version of the firmware and itunes. On the iphone summary tab just check the manually manage music and videos box. By enabling this on both computers it should be possible to add music from two different computers. I've done it before with a 4G iPod. Not certain if this works for the iPhone though.

Thats what I was looking for. Thanks mobius42.

    Just to chime in: we have 3 iPods -- 1 Mac-formatted 5.5G, 1 Windows-formatted iTouch & 1 Windows-formatted 8Gb nano.

Happily enough, when we bought an iMac, the Windows-formatted iPods let me manually manage music in iTunes without needing a reformat!

Still have to try the other way around, though.

    I use DropCopy.

Seriously one of the best things for the iPhone.. you need it on your Mac and your iPhone. You'll see a transparent eclipse symbol on your Desktop. Simply drag a file into it and it'll be transferred to your iPhone over your WiFi.

Same goes for the version on the iPhone.. simply select the file in DropCopy and it'll be sent to your Mac.

    Absolutely brillant!
