Obviously €35 here... Imagine how pissed off you'd be if you spent $35 to see Meet The Spartans? :)

Filmgoers get a taste of the good life
Luxury exhib chain plans $35 film tickets

Each complex will sport theaters featuring 40 reclining armchair seats with footrests, digital projection and the capability to screen 2-D and 3-D movies, as well as a lounge and bar serving cocktails and appetizers, a concierge service and valet parking.

But the circuit will especially push its culinary offerings -- made-to-order meals like sushi and other theater-friendly foods from on-site chefs (a service button at each seat calls a waiter). Moviegoers will have to pay extra for any food they order, however.

Probably not regularly, but the idea of being served made to order meals, and cocktails in a theater setting would be quite a novelty.

I don't think it would be a lot of fun, having people all around you ordering food while you're trying to watch the damn movie.

    No thanks.

23 euro is it? thats nothing to us rich Europeans :D but it is a bit steep when u don't get food for that price...

Hearing drink slurping and other distractions are bad enough without someone eating a meal beside you. *nyom, nyom, slurp, gobble* No flippin' way. :) I get it hard to pay the $6.

$35 is the equivalent of €22 but I know what you mean, if we had similar cinemas in Ireland is would cost a considerable amount more then in the US.

Slightly off topic, but I noticed that cinema prices have gone up lately. I went to Cineworld last week and it cost me €10 for a ticket (it used to be €9 something). Over in the US the prices are alot lower, the average ticket costs around $7 (€4.50)

I find the smell of nachos and cheese dip offensive - I imagine raw fish might just rival it!

I'd love to see some pictures of the layout.
40 seats in a large venue could be nicely spaced out.

Yeah, thats what I was getting at. If they charge $35, then cinemas here would try to get away with €35.

Yeah I'd be in the same boat here.

Although I'd try it out at least once to see if it's worth the extra splurge.

Movies@swords have a screen that costs E20 a ticket... but that includes a popcorn and soft drink. They have recliners as well.

Oh and there is a bar too.

I'd pay. The price alone would keep the rif-raff out.

Already have that over here in NZ, my local cinema has gold class ... for Euro25 you get your ticket, free popcorn and free drink.
Their is only about 40 seats all with electric controls and foot rests, centre table with wine cooler, then for extra there is the food/bar service.

There is a new that just opened that has massive 2 person bean bags !!

I concur, there's also nothing worse than enjoying a dialogue heavy film and having to listen to the person behind you stuffing their face with nachos. I remember watching Breach and having to listen to a group of people behind me sharing a large pack of Doritos, constantly shuffling the bag back and forth amongst one another.

I think its worth it. Not only is it much comfier and the teenagers never go in there, but it actually doesn't work out much more than a regular screen in the evening + large drink + large popcorn. One thing I can't understand about it and the other screens however that in a row of 4 seats, there are only 3 cup holders.

If it banned giggly teenagers as well that would rather chat than watch the film then i'm all for it

I did something similar, as a once off, when I was in Melbourne. It is class.

Drinks & Food (proper food, as opposed to sweets & popcorn) before & during the film, & a waitress topping up your drinks throughout.

What also looked fun was, they had a smaller cinema with only huge beanbags in it !!

Cineworld and other Dublin City cinemas are already beginning to veer towards the 20euro mark when you consider the cost of a ticket + any snacks you buy there. It's... what? 9.50euro now for a Cineworld ticket. Then add about another 5-10 quid for your nibbles. Under current exchange rates, $35 is 22euro. So to me, that idea seems like a damned bargain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,258 ✭✭✭✭Rabies

Normal price here is $15 and $10 on tuesdays. Gold class is $35.
Myself and the g/f have gone to gold class before and it ended up costing about $120, that included the two tickets, one popcorn, 2 drinks, one cocktail and a cheese platter.
Expensive night, but fine here and there.

movies at Dundrum have the Mezz vip area, tickets for that are 17.50

I would, but only if the film was a long'un

FFS; I was having this very conversation last night over dinner with a friend - time was a trip to the cinema was a "cheap night out".

In the space of 6 months the price in my cinema wen't from 7.50 to 9 euro. Now a 1.50 increase may not seem like musch, but I generally go to the cinema at least twice a week, so straight away that's an increase of 144 euro a year.

I'd pay an extra premium to ensure proper silence instead. There'd be multiple ushers standing at the sides and they would kick anyone out who talks or uses their mobile phone (yes, even to text). Anyone with nachos or other noisy foods wouldn't be admitted either.

im forking out the guts of that now for a bog standard seat in the UCI and a natchos and coke combo with small popcorn.

    its fcuking ridiculous.

in regards to the OP, i dont really see the cinema as a place i want to eat gormet food like sushi. TBH i dont really think of it of a place i'd get a beer either though i know places that do that.

i wouldnt mind if they brought the food to you so you dont miss anything but i'd stick to the normal cinema food fare.

still prices are nuts and one of the reasons im not going anywhere near like the weekly basis i used to two years ago. i cant help thinking cinemas are doing a publican and shooting themselves in the foot.

To be fair at Cineworld they have an unlimited ticket for €20 a month. As I'm now going at least 1-2 times a week (four times last week), that's a saving of €20-€60 per month

    And I usually BMO snacks

The Swords cinema has a premium screen which costs about €20 to get in. People like to mock me for being a 'yuppy' because I fork over the dough. Then they go out and buy a large drink and popcorn*, which combined with the price of the ticket costs about the same as the premium.

*Premium comes with large popcorn and drink (or a beer if you are so inclined) + a much nicer seat with loads of extra room. It actually works out as better value

I dunno; I'm a total cinemaphile, yet there's been an awful lot of rubbish in the cinema over the last while (notwithstanding the odd pearl like "No Country"). Just looking at the listings today, there's nothing I'd wanna go see in it.

while i agree with the better value part, the VIP area in swords also has the waiter service if yo uwant another drink but that can be rediculous during a film if some eejit is bringin in a tray of drinks to give to the people infront of you "sorry sir urs was the bud yes? how many did you pay for? three ok... and you sir" it would just be really distracting. having said that it is worth it so you dont have to deal with gobsh!tes talkin, or sticky floors, and the seats are great! better sound in there too!

so weighing up the pros and cons, VIP are is the way to go!

The best film being shown this week anywhere is Pulp Fiction, and that film is 14 years old!

Yeah, what's that all about? Cineworld showing "classics" or something? Or do even they release the listings are total kack?
