    hi !

ok, so i got some problems with startup, I recently installed "gears of war", it prompted me to update nvidia drivers and my computer has not been same since. I uninstalled the game and tried to troubleshoot the problem, but still take about 4 minutes to start (before took about 10 secs), which is outrageous as I have a pretty good spec (2gb ram, duo 2,33s) and graphics card (9600 gt).

So, any tips on what might be wrong ?

I also tried to reinstall nvidia drivers, however it does not run properly and crashes out towards end.

    thanks in advance,

    action

Have a look for the Microsoft Hive Cleanup service - Its a service which is supposed to clean up your profile for logging in and out

    i am using XP.

also, when starting up, it makes a strange "whurring" noise three times, bit like my ex girlfriend....

anyway, this is also a new addition after updatng drivers.

Is this noise from the fans or the hard drive?

Sounds like the HD is on the way out. Backup your data and then go to the HD's manufacturer site and download their diagnostic tools. Run them and see if it returns any errors.

ok, it will not let me in to the bios page. at start up it flashes the asus mb page, then goes black, stays black for a minute or so then opens windows xp page. is there anyway to get into bios from control panel ?

    thanks

To enter the bios all you need to do is press Delete " or which ever key is specific to yoru motherboard " If you check yoru manual it should be listed in there.

There is no way to enter the bios from windows.
