I've got a friend coming over tomorrow that I used to live with. He has my old Fuji 602 bridge camera from a few years ago. He's just after been travelling for a year and alot of his images are on a 1GB card that seems to be corrupted. Other cards work in the camera, just not this one. Anyone know what the best way to try to recover the image files is?

    Thanks.

There are a number of image recovery applications out there, some free and some commercial. Thankfully, I've never had to recover files, so can't make any recommendations.

Give a google search a try and see how you get on.

use this program to scan the card (might need to (quick) format the card)

have used it successfully before but cant remember the exact steps

    Hi Folks,
Have a look at Testdisk great bit of free software not sure if it will work on the cf card but worth a try. Shakey it should fix your issue I have saved several usb harddrives with and an archos av500. It checks your drive and fixes the errors. While most other software just tries to recover the data but you might never get it all back.
    regards
    Karl

Remember the golden rule of data recovery

NEVER NEVER WRITE ANYTHING TO A CORRUPT CARD.

    This includes
    More files
    Formatting the card
    re partitioning the card

All professional data recovery products only read data they do nothing more.
Best ones read raw data and reconstitutes it away from the corrupt device by use of file signature checking.

bad ones that loose more then they recover repair back onto the corrupt device or require you to reformat it before scanning.

Check out ontrack easy recovery and DriveRescue

    good luck

I've used the rescue pro that comes with the sandisk memory cards with huge success on a fake sony card, recovered all files and only a bunch of jpg had some corruption, the rest were OK
PM for details if you don't have it

@shakey blakey - knoppix is a linux OS that you can boot to from the cd
you say your drive is an external one mean you can actually get to windows???? cant see it being much good to you if this is the case
as it probably wont see anything that windows doesnt already see.
