    Casillas
    Ramos-Nesta-Carvalho-Lahm
    Essien-Pirlo
    ----Ronaldo-Totti-Kaka
    Van Nistelrooy

    subs:
    Maldini
    Gerrard
    Drogba

Is it just me, or is there a serious lack of quality fullbacks around at the moment? Nobody really approaches the likes of Maldini, Cafu or Zambrotta at their prime.

Maicon, Alves, Ramos, Sagna are great right backs.

Cole, Evra, Abidal are great left backs.

Theres also some great up and coming talent like Fabio, Marcelo, De Silvestri etc.

Sorry but I can't agree on Abidal. He's so average it's unbelievable. I'd rather have Sylvinho for Barca than him.

I don't really think any of those listed are 'great' tbh. Good definitely but not in the same class as your Cafus and your Maldinis.

Maicon has been phenomenal in Serie for two years straight. He was so good that Inter couldn't find an excuse to drop him for Grosso at the time, a national hero, therefore increasing there least favourite club status. There was a time around November 2006 when Inter were looking for an excuse to drop him but couldn't find one. He's a better left back then Xavi anyway :)

Only cause Xavi's right footed. Other than that Maicon wouldn't be a patch on him :)

I never said the likes of Maicon weren't good players. They just aren't currently great, as NekkidBibleMan pointed out.

    Zanetti

    Gerrard (on the right)
    C. Ronaldo (on the left)
    Essien

Kaka, Ramos, Gattusso (not saying they're the next best three, but that should cover everything more or less)

    Mourinho to manage obviously.

And I want the stadium Schalke 04 in Germany use.

EDIT: Totti gets the armband but it goes to Zanetti if he does so much as one twattish thing.

Glad to amuse. You have Ramos, Alves, Bufon, Benzema in ur team. I could have added these, but I haven't seen enough of them, so i went with what i know. Had a feeling someone would object to their inclusion, but I'd say half the folk here are going on reputation rather than actuially witnessing their consistent greatness. I think Richards is young, quick, a great reader of the game and a future great. Petrov would be great to have on the bench to inject real pace down the flank, especially when the right back has been dealing with Messi and Ronaldo for 60 mins. I'm sure there are better options, but I'm not just picking someone based on the words that are written about them. I personally think Gerrard is highly overated, and his talent vastly exagerated. If i was picking a team based on other peoples opinions though, he'd be in the team. however, I'm not, I'm basing the team on what i know.
Actually, I fogot about Lahm. I'd likely put him in instead of Richards, though I haven't seen him this season.

Personally i'd rather have Ronaldihno coming off the bench instead of Petrov, but thats just me.

I do agree that some people get in on reputation but i think in the last couple of years Gerrard has been one of the best MF's in the world so i would definately pick him. Don't think Richards is there yet. I think he will be awesome in a few years though.

As I said, the likes of Benzema etc would likely be better optiopns, but I'd be just including them based on hype. Ronaldinho has been fairly poor in the games I've seen him in this season, but even so, would probably still be a better option than Petrov, I take that point. I still think Petrov is a great winger though, and I'd still probably go for him in the squad. Obviously two different types of player. Ronaldinho in his prime would be the first name on the sheet tbh, but his attitude seems to have really impacted his game. With Messi, Kaka and ronaldo that flair is taken care of. Petrov would just blister down the touchline, and guarantee you some dangerous crosses.

Ferdinand isn't in mine cause i'm not basing it on 1 season. Terry, Carvalho, Nesta have imo been better over the past 3 to 4 seasons.

Also, how are Totti and Zlatan 'out of form'? The two best players in their respective teams by miles. And both of them banging in goals, playing regularly and making a major contribution to the whole team.

And I didn't even pick them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,452 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

Totti got 26 goals in 35 games in Serie A last season, and I believe he was also the European golden boot winner. He's averaging more than one in every two games this season, which is nothing to be sniffed at, especially in Serie A. He's Roma's captain, he's a great free kick taker and I can't think of any players in his position that are better than him.

Players in the Italian league arent hyped up to such a huge extent like Premiership/La Liga players. I wonder if that's something to do with Sky owning the rights to the latter two, but not the Italian league...

    Hahahaha. Seriously, HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Totti having a piss poor season. Tell me do you watching any football other than the prem and do you listen to anyone else other than who sky tell you to?

Why does Gerrard have to be there? Have a good season yes but still wouldn't be in my top midfield in the premiership.

Personally I can't believe more havent put in Xavi or Inniesta.
