Fashion City, M50 Industrial Estate

    Hi All,

I was wondering around the Ballymount/M50 Industrial Estate today and I came across an out of town "street" called Fashion City. It's made up of approx 10 to 12 fashion clothing shops for women. I think they are all factory shops but don't be put off by this as they have the full glamour look of a high street store. I'd imagine there must be some price incentive to get people away from Grafton St and drive out to an ugly Industrial Estate.

Girls, and fella's buying for girls, this may be worth taking into account when shopping for expensive clothing. If you spot any major price differences between this place and the high street, maybe let everyone know about it on this forum.

Here's all I can find about it on Google.

Might be mistaken but I think it's Trade only?

I don't think so. It looked like a street of small high street shops that someone off the street could walk into. At the entrance to the street, it said "Management Reserve the Right of Admission", which strook me as the policy of a glamourous high street store.

On the below unfinished website, it says it has a seperate section for customers. http://www.fashioncity.ie/

I've been to two of the companies there doing my job and they had no facilities for customers (tills, staff,...). But I don't know about others.

Fashion City is trade only, it was developed to cater for the wholesale companies who used to be based around South William Street in the city centre and were no longer able to afford the rents.

you must be joking they also sell direct to customers on certain days of each month. On a saturday morning there can be 100's of people waiting for the warehouses to open.My wife is on the mailing lists and gets a letter every month letting her know the sales dates. The next one listed is styleman this saturdayand ladybird for kids on 05-04-2008 from 10.00am until 2.00pm.they call them sample sales but the prices are very cheap.Once one shop opens another couple open to catch the same customers that are in the estate.

It is a trade only business park, but as with all fashion wholesalers they have excess stock which they will clear out on specific days to the public. - Same happens in London & Paris.

They won't welcome people just turning up and calling in on any day of the week.

As per above - go to one of the special public sales and get your name on a mailing list.

It IS trade only. There is only a couple normal sellers.I know 80% of the traders there as they are of Pakistani and Indian origin, so i know exactly what im talking about.
Most of the top wholesalers are closed on saturday and open on sunday's

Yep they are. Don't think they open to the public though. I've never seen them open in my time there.

There are usually sample sales going on most Saturday mornings in the rest of the buildings around there.

Has anyone been to any of these shops recently or knows of any sample sales coming up?

Also how can one get on a mailing list for sample sales?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 117 ✭✭happyeveryday

    Hi maira,
The public sales are really hit and miss, but if you are close by on any Saturday it would be worth dropping down. there are only a few businesses that sell to the public, nearly always on a Saturday morning.

As for mailing lists, they have them either on their websites or sign up sheets at their reception desks.

Sorry i can't directly help you here.

Have you registered on Fashioncity.ie? There's no actual website but there is a page where you can register for sample sales.
