Lads a quick question This is a bar im thinking of getting but it says not to be used with inversion boots does this mean it wont be suitable for the second thing i want it for? Want to do chin ups and hang from the backs of my knees and do like "mid air" sit ups

    Cheers

The "no inversion boots" is probably an insurance thing. I have that exact bar. I am ~75kg and have done chins on it with 40kg on a dipping belt, so 115kg in total.

I actually tried what you plan but it was too narrow and hurt my legs. I am thinking of getting inversion boots, or making some to see if I could get the hang of them.

Its strength will depend on the doorframe too. It is only held on by 3 small screws on each side, they go into little cups, then the pole is telescopic and screws out to sit into the cups. The pressure also keeps it in place.

You could possibly put a towel over the bar to be more comfortable. Even still I am not sure situps will be easy, your legs go forward, you really wand something for them to lean against. Maybe search youtube for ideas.

Once up you would want to hang off it a good few times to be confident of the strength, maybe even get a second person to hang from it.

There are also removable chinup bars, I would recommend them over the argos one. I have my argos one in a narrow corridor, not in a frame. A door frame would mean it has to go lower, which I would not like.
this is one, they work by a cantilever principle. It should handle more weight, but still might not be suitable for your situps.

You could look at my signature link for tips on how to make one. Just test it well first!!

There are chinning bars at 3 heights in cabinteely park in south dublin, you could try it out there first, they also have monkey bars, which you might be able to lock your legs under.

    LOL!
You could possibly make another set of caps so the bar could be mounted high and low, so if you did fall it would not be far. I will have to have another go at it sometime. I don't do much direct ab work so might just be weak.

Sorry to be a 'stick in the mud', but the manufactures of these things give guide lines for a reason!. I don't think anyone just guesses at these things ;)

Reminds me of the ad on TV ...

    "Its thirty for a reason"
