    For NY.

    Right, bringing 5D and 580ex

24-70 2.8L is pretty much confirmed.

50 1.4 for messy drunken nights.

Lensbaby because it's tiny and weighs nothing.

15mm Fisheye is small and dosn't weigh a whole pile either.

Those of you that have been before, is there any need to bring anything longer?

Contemplating bringing the 135 f2L, but if someone can convince me to bring that large white waste of money that is the 70-200 2.8 IS, I'll consider it instead of the 135.

    Opinions?

Also, those of you with experience in the square filters department, I'm planning on getting a decent enough kit of filters, any reccommendations?

The only thing I really used my super cheapo 70-300 for in New York was the Bronx Zoo. That place is great :)

Hmmmm. Don't think I'll be getting to the zoo...

70-200 is a waste of money? How very dare you sir!

I'd bring the 135 too.. if only to catch the antics of squirrels in central park :D Leave the 70-200 at home, it'll only weigh you down. Wide would be my priority for cityscapes and the all important shots from the top of both the empire state and the late night trip to the top of the rock.

Don't go weighed down with gear completely.. there's a ****load of walking to be done in NY and you dont want to be laden down with heavy glass (apart from the 24-70, that's non negotiable).

I heart my cokin P filters, but they are damn awkward.

Bah, the amount of times I've used it since I bought it...

I got the wide end covered with a 15mm and the 24 end of the zoom anyways ;)

I really don't want to be weighed down, but the 24-70, 580ex, 15mm, 50mm and Lensbaby weigh nothing anyways.

Right, Cokin P filters, tell me more.

I doubt you'll need the 70-200mm. Just wide angles and people/street stuff.

The rate of exchange is currently brilliant, so pack light, buy loads, and come home happy. :D

Buy the lens there, keep receipt and bring it back before heading home. They have even better laws to protect customers.

Best of luck in NY, watch out for the big transvestites trying to help you carry your bags:eek:, you could travel light and rent bigger if the need arises http://www.newyork411.com/Camera_Sound_Equipment/category-cid-50590.htm, and dont forget to get a pic of the guitar playing cowboy in his speedo's.

    hey al

if its such a waste of money I am sure i could be pursaded to swap it for my smaller 70-200 f4l that you know is sharper, :-)

Fajitas ... if you have never been to B&H before take some advice ... don't go there without first preparing a shopping list ... or you'll end up spending 2 times your budget to get half as much gear as you needed ... but it is a great shopping experience ... if a little like a human zoo ... make sure you pop upstairs to the second hand store ... I got my EOS3 there for USD400 ... not bad!!

... forgot to add ... if B&H is too intimidating (and it can be) ... try J&R Music world near the foot entrance to the Brooklyn bridge ... and go just before sun set .. so you can pop out on the wooden deck on the bridge for the cliche shot of the NYC skyline or this sort of thing -
