TV License question

    Hi,

I just canceled my NTL cable tv, and I have a tv that belongs to the landlord, I was wondering am I still liable to pay for the tv license?

Do I have to pay just simply because I have a tv device at home?

Also, I've got a friend who has a tv but he has his own satellite dish, and he doesn't pay for the license. Is he breaking the law or is that legal?

Give TV to landlord. No need to have license then.

Best solution to the problem in all fairness.

The license is for owning the TV and having it in the house. The cable or satellite service you have connected to it is irrelevant.

If you have any device capable of recieving a TV signal you need a licence. OP if you had digital cable you'll need to send back the box, any PC with a TV card needs a licence. Even an old video recorder needs a licence.

Give the TV back and when the licence inspector calls next show them in, but hide anything else that can recieve a TV signal;)

Yes, although you are unlikely to be detected.
