Did any of you lads know Des?..

Des was involved in MC racing in Ireland for most of his 54yrs.

I raced with Des in the mid-late 80's and early 90's - but marriage got in the way and Des and myself parted company but to remain friends for year's later.

Anyway, I was informed last night that Des passed away early yesterday after a battle with cancer, he was 54yrs old.

We'd some mad times tickering around with old RD's and Des even raced a Laverda Jota on the I.O.M. - the crazy bastard that he was!.

Anyway if any of you lads know Des, sorry to bring that news. His wife (Dr. Attracta Heffernan) is also well known in Irelands MC racing circuit - being Doctor of many race days.

I had the occasional bit of chat with Des down at the Gem. Didn't know him as well as you ofcourse, he was 2nd in the IOM twice - is that correct ? I knew he had been very unwell for a year or so but was still shocked to hear he went so quickly in the end. RIP.

Sounds like we're talking about the same chap.

His funeral is after 10:00am mass in Rathmines this morning.
