Transfering ITunes from internal Hard drive to an External Hard Drive

Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right palce to post this. Anyway, I have a laptop (just over 3 years old) with a 30GB hard drive that is nearly full - only 1 gig left! I mainly use it for ITunes. I have an external hard drive and want to transfer the data for Itunes (songs etc) to it.

How is the best way of doing this so that when I start open Itunes with the external hard drive conected and I connect my Ipod or start up Itunes it'll launch it from the external hard drive?

Ok so I've managed to successfully move my ITunes libray to my external hard drive which is connected via a USB cable. However when I start my computer or have Itunes open and the external hard drive connected and then connect my ipod or iphone it says it's unable to recognise the usb device? I can only get Itunes to recognise teh ipod when I disconnect the the external harddrive but thats no good as I need to sync it to my ipod?

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this problem?

Perhaps they have the same drive letter. Change the drive letter of the external drive to something futher down the alphabet like M or R etc.

Personally I just copy the iTunes folder to the external, then delete everything from the iTunes (not the files) then re import the iTunes folder. Takes a bit of time but it works fine.
