    Hey,

Just saw on Engadget that the new firmware is out.

The big update with this is BD Live, updating the PS3 BD firmware to 2.0.

    Anyone notice anything else added?

Downloaded it this morning before I went to work.
Subtitle SRT support for DivX files has been added and the ability to play DivX files greater then 2GB also.

I like the subtitles inclusion. I had a few films and really needed that.

Next firmware sometime in June perhaps? With In-Game XMB? /fingers crossed.

Has anyone tried out the new Remote Play functions? I'm interested to see in what way the PSP functions as a remote with the PS3 in regards to music. Will be heading home for lunch and can't wait to try it out.

Downloaded it when I got home. I have my PS3 connected into an amp through optical but now the audio is also coming out through the TV as a result of being connected by HDMI. There seems to be no way to disable this as I have the PS3 set to output audio through optical but it's still coming through the TV.

    Anyone else experiance this?

I also found that when browsing a music folder through Remote Play it's now much more sluggish to move through the list of songs.... which is not cool.

Press SELECT I think on your PSP and you can change the connection AV quality to decrease lag, improve response time.

Thanks Ongarite, I'll give that a whirl when I get home.

Nothing much here that interests me. Oh well. Perhaps the subtitle support. Are there any Bluray movies out now that support this 2.0 thing?

I think this has borked my PS3. Since updating earlier every time I try a game or movie the system will freeze within a few minutes. Very annoying. Games and movies will start fine and play for a couple of minutes and then lock up. It then goes back to the XMB. Games and videos that have been downloaded or videos on an external hard drive work fine so I'm not quite sure what the problem is. Is the blu ray drive knackered?
I'm going to bring it back to the shop as the warranty is up in two days.:(

Is it just me, or this becoming something common, where updates can seemingly kill a PS3?

I've noticed this issue being posted before for previous updates.

I didn't have any issues with optical after the update ,I'm using a 40GB and I updated from the previous latest update.

Edit : Maybe pressing the power button and resetting the graphics might fix it ?

I had my 60Gb bork out on me before christmas ,my thoughts on it were that the update changes the way the BD drive reads slightly and a weak drive will fail.:o
I could be wrong ,but at least sony bring out updates regurlarly and they're not trying to hide any issues:)

i would have thought it'd be sooner rather then later given GT5 Prologue supports new things that other games don't (like the "home" tab). it's a perfect opportunity to give a huge update and showcase the machine in front of a large audience, especially in europe

    ????

Edit : i think I know what you mean about that ,I know it goes back to scart by default but maybe your sound option is lost with the Hdmi setting.
Maybe selecting a different display setting and letting it go back to hdmi after the 30 seconds.

I was looking at sony's tech support forum and it seems I'm far from alone with this problem. I suppose if I bring it back to Game they will exchange it with a 40gb model:(

This update has my PS3 finding errors in divx files. What once played perfectly before stops a few minutes in

Divx support is probably the most worthwhile thing they've included in an update.

All I want from them in future updates, is support for mkv files, and ntfs hard drives, theres my list. Doesnt seem like too much to ask.

I agree. However, it would be nice to be able to play them all.

Not that bothered but thanks anyway. Sony not ****ing up would have been a better solution.

Is there a need for it, like would it slow your system doen much or infringe on any of the settings?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,721 ✭✭✭Otacon

It wont slow your system down. All it takes up is about 10GB on the HDD (Well, you can select it whichever way you want)

Personally I did it as an exercise. I rarely use it but its handy to have if you have a file you want to play that isn't compatible with the PS3. Its an option.

is getting the wifi running on YDL easy? and does it pick up external HDD's?

Its pretty easy with the newest version, and theres a guide on the official site on how to do it.
    nedd wrote: »

Yes I have one connected myself and it mounted automatically for me, though it was always connected before I booted into it.

Eircom, but I have a good Linksys Router and there was never issues with it before the RMA and the fact that it happens my friend's one on Irish Broadband leads me to believe its a problem with the PS3..

    Hey Mossy Man

There are three movies that have profile 2.0 goodies and they are Region free so you can pick them up cheap from the US if they appeal to you (poor selection imho)

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story & Arnie's The 6th Day & Saw IV are all Profile 2.0

As far as i know, I havent fully tested it yet, But the new firmware wont see .srt subtitles, However it does now support subtitles.

    http://www.calcitapp.com/AVIAddXSubs.php

Use that prog to add the srt file to the divx file.. Hope that helps people...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,707 ✭✭✭skywalker

actually installing linux would allow me to play mkv files & access ntfs external hdds wouldnt it? Can you then ftp into the ps3 with that too?

I'm with eircom broadband and I've also changed back to NAT 3.. It's a pain in the a$$.. I can't communicate with my friends online any more and can't set up voice chats..

Does anyone know of a fix to this problem? Before you ask, I have UPnP enabled, ports opened, static NAT..etc
