    hey, i bought a hong kong 40gb ps3 off ebay tonight and he is sending a 3 pin adapter thing to go in our sockets,,

    i know all ps3 games are region free so that isnt a problem, blue ray are region locked but i can get region free ones, but what i was wanting to know is do i need some power thing to make it work? or is it just plug n play cos someone told me i might need a ''step down converter''

    The supply in hong kong is the same as here , same plugs and all !! As with all former british colonies , mains is based on UK system.

    Yup , there should be no difference whatsoever.

    Yep, mines from HK and works perfectly, it came with a three pin plug but they just use bog standard kettle leads anyway so you can always pick one up for a euro or two if needs be.

    Oh, one thing, it outputs in NTSC so if you have a very old TV it might not support it, most newer CRTs or any HD ready TV and you'll be fine.

    Absolutely positive , they all have a 100 to 240 , 50/60hz supply , as stevenmu said , the only thing thats changed between countrys is the lead.

    The NTSC /PAL thing wont matter either , the unit outputs in both formats regardless , you can manually set it up yourself , and the NTSC /PAL thing has no bearing on HD content , which includes most games and movies etc.

    e.g. you set it up for 720p , and it converts everything to that , likewise with 1080i or 1080p , you get the idea ?

    NTSC = 480 @ 60hz , PAL = 576i @ 50 , the unit can do both and many many more !

    Like Mathias says, HD modes will work perfectly on your HD tv. For SD my unit only offers me 480i/p not 576i/p, altough it's possible that I chose this at some point because the TV I was using at the time supported 480p but not 576p.

    It shouldn't be a problem, most TVs of that age should support NTSC signals, although the only way to know for sure is to check the manuals for the TVs in question.

    hi i just checked the manual and it says NTSC Playpack via AV1
    So i guess thats good right?

    and also i turned the page and it says power is on 50hz for the tv?
