I'm buying the black macbook from the states and I was wondering would a european power cord work the same as the box or do I need a transformer?

the power chord you get in the box with the macbook will do all you need to do is find a three pin plug for it. a 2-pin to 3-pin converter would do.

When I got my lappy from the US it came with a power cord that went into a transformer. This transformer then had a cord going out of it and into the laptop. I simply changed the plug that goes on the cable that goes into the transformer. The transformer changes the power and converts it so it doesn't matter if it is American or Irish, both will work.

I'm not sure if they still sell the power with the long cord going into the transformer - if so then you just change the plug or get a 2-3 converter as Cremo says. Otherwise you may need to buy the adaptor set box that contains the little pluggable adaptors that fit into the transformer directly. But I would imagine that you get the long cable that goes into the transformer. Look at me muddying the issue.. sorreh!

I got my macbook in California. It works fine. It comes with a 2 pin prong or a 3-pin prong at the end of a wire. I got one of those US-UK/IE plugs in Boots and plug it in - works great.

Alternatively, you can just plug a standard figure-of-8 plug/wire into the brick (you get them with boomboxes, and maybe your dvd player etc) and it does the same job. But I prefered the first for aesthetic reasons
