Your looking to upload videos and stuff then? Prob rapidshare or usenext, or you could make your own server?!

Hmm i was thinking about setting up my own server from an old pc or something but my knowledge on these issues are very limited and i'm not sure i would being making the most from it to warrant setting one up.

The websites above will work with filezilla or similar right?

just look up some tutorials on setting up an FTP server. If you don't need a website and just require access to files via the internet then i'd recommend setting up a filezilla ftp server. Its pretty easy and there are a lot of guides out there. It can also be simply set up on your home pc, no need for a seperate server. Plus the software is also free.

EDIT: Also, if your ISP provides you with a dynamic IP use an IP updater that will resolve your changing IP to a URL. I'd recommend dyndns

The thing is i want to be able to access the FTP account from anywhere in the world therefore having it on my home PC would not be practical for me anyway.

I'm just curious if there is any other solution. Thanks for the advise guys.;)

If you leave your PC on all the time and have Broadband which you eave connected, you will be able to access the FTP from anywhere on the internet, one you set up the DYnamic DNS and have the ports correctly forwarded. But, quite possibly, it's not worth the hassle if you only need to do a couple of things.

What would your total size of the amount of files be?

Why not? I've got a server i never turn off & a pc thats mostly left running. They're designed to be left on. I can access my stuff from anywhere.

Design dude- file sizes could vary from 100mb to 2-3GB. Photos, video back up etc.

PogMoThoin- thing is i will be away travelling only need access to a remote storage now-and-again. So i feel it would not warrant setting one up in the house and leaving it running. Granted a server is designed to be left on all the time i agree.

http://www.xdrive.com/ give you 5gb free online storage.
    Also http://www.box.net/ and http://www.mediamax.com/ give you 25gb

PS, if your uploading a file of a few gb size, itll take absolutely ages to upload! Would an external hdd not suit you? You can get them very small these days, fit in your wallet.

agree, this would seem like a much more sensible option. A WD Passport drive would suit you perfectly
