Why did red roof tiles turn partially blue ?

New house built near me. Standard looking pitched roof in red tiles. After a few months the tiles seem to have turned royal blue in patches and it looks awful.

    What could cause this ?

You don't say what kind of tiles they are so its hard to be specific. However all products ( not just for roofs ) whether natural or manmade when exposed to the elements and particularly UV will fade and may change colour for example with paints or coated products. The worst colours for fading are reds, greens, light blues and greys.

In manmade items UV stabilisers and additives are used to control colours and fading. In very broad terms more stabilisers such as carbon black can be used in darker products than lighter products so they generally perform better over a longer time.

My best guess from what your describing is that it is a painted tile and the top colour was not stabilised correctly revealing the base colour underneath.
