Are they any good? What are the differences between the SE & FX? What sort of MPG do you get around town. Any other useful pointers?

Don't think there is a difference between FX/SE. The FX is the irish version while the SE is the english maybe jap version. MPG is around the 35 mark. Go for the 2.0ltr one over the 1.6 one.

If you ever want to sell it again, stay away from the 2.0, get the 1.6

the 2.0 isn't noticably quicker than the 1.6, and the newer 2.0 models are all 4 speed slushomatic.

Even the 2.7 V6 is slow.

SE is UK spec, the 1.6 litre comes with air conditioning. 2.0 litre adds leather interior and climate control.

FX is Irish spec, the 1.6 litre comes with half leather interior and electric sunroof, the 2.0 litre adds climate controlled air con and full leather interior too.

If you buy anything other than the 1.6 litre version in Ireland your married to it for life.

i test drove one of these before my octavia VRS.

Personally, I'd avoid the car, you are paying for the "hairdresser" style looks, and there's feck all going on when you put the peddle down.

The vrs was 1.8 and was light years better to drive.

All good points. The 1.6 just can't shift the weight of the 02+ models. The 2.0ltr isn't really brisk but I don't think thats the point of them. If you want a quick car go for something like the skoda VRS, Golf etc. I have a volvo s60 2.0t. 180bhp. very quick. Same with the saab 9-3 2.0t 175bhp. best compromise try to get a good tdi golf 130/140bhp etc.

The Coupe is all about style and appearance for a low price. It was never designed for performance so don't expect it from it.
